those times are rubbish in the magazines alot of e30 325's can do 0-60 in just under 7 secs and it's the same for e36 2.5's and 2.8's. But in terms of straight line speed theres hardly anything in it
unlooked after e30 2.5's can have cylinder head problems, cracked heads and gasket failure. there are not many now on the original heads! mine is though!
e36 2.5's bombproof pretty much apart from the odd head gasket on high milege cars 150k plus. but it is rare
e36 2.8's dreaded nikasil bore problems on the blocks 95% will have had replacement blocks by now and are a very strong engine.
u can tune a 2.8 easy with bolt on parts to add a good 15-20bhp for little expense to which takes some upto 220bhp

just to clarify...the e36 325 and 328 are about the same standard ? but the 328 is more restricted standard (read something about the inlet manifold)
and the e36 325 has 192 bhp standard, or is that the 328
I know some of the bmw's have names like 318 but are actually 1.9s or something like that...

i dont see how a lack of rev limiter will make ur car any faster tho - power will still run out at the same point.

i happened to have a quick 325 tourer with 171bhp so i'll gtech it soon and reveal all noting that the gtech shows a flat 6secs for my 2.7, and these gtechs show same times when running on proper timing eg santa pod

unless my car is exceptionally slow an E30 325 will not see off a 328.
My car has reasonable mods, cam, chip, exhaust, filter etc and could not beat a 328 down the 1/4 mile earlier in the summer. I did 15.9 standing 1/4 on 3 runs, although my starts were crap but the E36 328i I was pitched against beat me in the 3 runs, his quickest 1/4 was 14.7. I was personally disappointed with my times and hope to take nearly a second off them with better starts (reaction times were as abad as 1.2 secs) plus rmoving interior next time etc.
I got him off the line each time with the lighter car, but by 100yds he was pulling on me. He also had some pretty big ICE install which weighed a fair old bit

I should think E30 and E36 325 will be about the same until about 80-90 mph, from there the E36 with less air drag will start to pull away from the E30 ?
Standard E30 325 V's standard 328, 328 should win in a straight line or in the bends.
But a lot comes down to how good the driver is.

No standard E30 325i would see off an E36 328i if both cars were stock, I don't care what anyone says. The 328i engines are pretty powerful and can easilly have a few moe ponies released.
If the guy who's mate with the E36 cab can't beat an old 325i then it's either not a 328 at all or there's something drastically wrong with it.

I have both and tbh the e30 feels quicker to about 40mph then the e38 328 comes in with a huge shove of torque that just propels it on ward and the accelleration doesnt seem to stop until 130ish.Deffo a heavier car but so much more refined.I love my e30 because its raw and more like a holigan,in fact i drive it a lot more on the edge than my 36.

Had some twin road test of the 325i Sport vs the (then) new e36 325i, aint got a scanner but the E30 pipped it to 60 and the E36 beat it to 100. But was very little in it either way.

i'd agree with that, an e30 325 might run very close with an e36 325i, but once a 328i got into its stride an e30 would get well beatE30Adam wrote:No standard E30 325i would see off an E36 328i if both cars were stock, I don't care what anyone says.
