The dashboard light comes on with the ignition and goes out once started, it remains out until I move the car and then it comes on, any idea, could it be a faulty sensor, if so is there any easy way to check which one?

The plug and sockets for the ABS sensors are round, two pin white ones. There is one in a clip on each front inner wing, and the other two are under the rear seat cushion.
Take them apart, and use a meter to measure their resistances.

Resistance of the sensors should be 985 Ohm to 1,025 KOhm. Hope this the rigtht measurement in the UK, too.

Correct, but it's a difference in one from the other three that you're looking for, rather than the actual readings.

Well I thought I knew what I was doing, got the meter out and clicked it on 2000k and placed the black and red against the pins on the ABS plugs......and nothing, the screen shows up a few numbers and then drops to 1.

I've got the red in V. and the black in COM.

What am I doingg wrong to obtain a reading.

On the 2000k range (2M) the reading should drop to 0. You should be using the 2k range.
You are connecting the meter to the half of the plugs and sockets that goes to the sensors?

Thank Brian, obviously when someone points it out, 2k is 2000, I'll give this a go in the morning and yes it did drop to zero on 2000k.

Well I tested the sensors today and these are the results:

Front Drivers - 963
Front Pass - 977
Rear Drivers 974
Rear Pass - 981

They all seem pretty close to eachother or are they all knackered?

As said before the light operates as normal until I move the car and then appears and stays on until ignition is off and then back on.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

That's not close at all by my reckoning! - but not far enough apart to point the finger at any one in particular.
Have you plugged them back in and tried the car again? It's not unknown for a cure to be effected simply by unplugging and reconnecting an 'iffy' connector.
Have you carefully inspected the wires from the plugs to the sensors for damage, especially at the front?

I'll take it out tomorrow and see if it reappears whilst driving and check to see if any are damaged.
