I'm looking at buying a '92 318i Design Edition Cabrio in Neon Green .
It's got 172,000 kms on the clock , and looks from pictures to
be very clean .
It's got a partial history , and is being sold by a dealer in Germany for Eur 3450 .
I know the UK market is different to Europeene , but is that a
bit too expensive , or is it in court for a Design Edition ??
I know the car has been for sale for at least 3 months as I
looked at it last year , but now I'm thinking of making an offer .
What do people think would be sensible ??
Chris

Daimlerman has one.JokeTown wrote:Pictures would really help but 3450 is a ridiculous price for a 1.8 with 100k miles.

It might be ridiculous to pay that in this country, but in Germany that might be the going rate...i dont know!JokeTown wrote:Pictures would really help but 3450 is a ridiculous price for a 1.8 with 100k miles.
I like the Design cabbies, and they are a limited edition, but in the UK that car would struggle to fetch £2500, even if it was immaculate.

Neon Green Design Edition Motorsport cabbie.
Not quite finished in this shot but you get the idea.

Re-built interior of my car.
Chrislux,
BMW built 500 Neon Blue and 500 Neon Green cars as a limited run,I have so far been unable to discover if this number refers to TOTAL production or LHD with further cars being built in RHD.
Within the UK,the blue version sold well and often pops up secondhand, but only 50 or so green one's were sold in the UK,making them about the rarest production BMW available.
There is a green LHD one living with a zoner in Holland,he posts every now and then.
Only green car I have seen for sale in the UK was a very low milage one(37000 miles)in condition to match with a price tag of £6900...
Be aware that the special neon green trim is difficult to find and expensive.I have been unable to find neon green trim s/h anywhere,I needed to repair this;

I discovered that BMW still had in stock backrest covers but NOT cushion covers, what you see in the interior shot is a replacement cushion cover cut from a backrest cover....
This was easily the hardest and most expensive part of my re-build!
Difficult to price a car in a different country, but my feeling is that £3000+ is about right for a perfect car,I would expect no trim wear,no trim missing,no rusty bits, full service history etc.
Car as a 1.8 is quite competent, especialy around town, comes with an ultra low 4.45 diff so is quick away from the lights but will be tiresome on the motorway....I have stuffed a 2.7 into mine!

Thx Daimlerman ,
As I understood it , it was a total of 500 each colour including RHD's . In LHD there were 262 Blue's and 255 Green's produced . Which leaves 483 RHD's .
It's funny , but over here I've seen more Greens than Blues .
The one I'm looking at looks very clean , almost immaculate , but I notice
some differences between it and your car ;
The steering wheel looks like an M3 Evo , but not in suede . The gearknob
isn't wood . There are front foglights , and it looks like there is a 318iS
front lower lip spoiler . The wheels are cross-spokes with Green centre-caps .
All the trim appears to be there in tact , with no seat-fabric wearing anywhere .
Interesting about the diff. ratio , that's higher than the RS2000 I used to road
rally !! But as you say , there are ways of getting around it if it's annoying on
M-ways .
Thxvm 4 ur help , I keep you informed how I get on .

You certainly looked closely at my photos!
Wood gearknob is a 'me' thing,it's ex E34.
Car came to me with a M-Tec2 steering wheel,it will be replaced before I start using the car.
I do not like foglights,in the UK the 'boyracers' have them on when they are not required,so they are removed from my cars.
In my first photo, you will note that the driver's door mirror is missing, work in progress, now retified!
Front spoiler is interesting,I would regard an iS spoiler as an 'add on',not detrimental, but my wife would forget about it when parking...
Wheels in my photo's are 'garage slaves',I have a set of BBS cross spokes that came with the car,I also have a set of style 10 wheels looking for a home...
Please do keep in touch, these cars are scarce and us deviants need to stick together!
My car will be fully roadworthy soon,I shall have some fresh photo's of her in her current state.
