Hi chaps,
I'm looking to buy an E39 528i as a daily driver.
What do I need to look for when viewing/inspection?
Cheers

bushes is always a weak point indicated by front shakes at 60, they are starting to rott around the arches, (tourings boot lids are quite bad also) if you go for an early pre 98 model check that the nikasil issue has been resolved. also a good check on the engine as the m52`s are no strainger to head gasket failure. the electrics can play up esp if it has aircon the screens loose there pixels and can be expensive to replace.
other than that just general stuff.

Good choice. the later 525's are coming right down now as well and make the same power.
Check all the electrics properly. things like the rain sense wipers, abs light extinguishes (make sure it illuminates first), airbag light, climate operates as it should etc etc. They suffer electrical glitches no end. Can drive you mad!
On my second e39 and despite the odd glitch, they cannot be beaten for value for money.
Mates just bought an XKR. 99 on the T. Rang me the other day to ask how best to deal with the rust in the rear arches
. other mate has a manual 523i, 96 on the P with 178k up. Drives it like he stole it but you know what? It's totally rust free and reliable to the end. Yeah the AC is U/S and the traction light sometimes stays on but 3 years comfortable motoring for 1500 quid? try beating it.

Big and heavy compared to a e30 320is.
Like driving your sofa, very comfortable.
Ive had issue with electrics, check all the windows & central locking
Good car, 530D sport is a cracker.
