I dont think Nikasil is an issue, theres few cases of it and the ones that have come up have been fixed under warrenty. Bicycle boy Moofles Z3 had an M52 and i dont think his had any problems.
lol @ Zayyan and fuel economy, should buy diesel/modern car if ur that worried! Mine does 36mpg out of town and thats gunning it everywhere

I'm not as obsessed at it seems, it's more a running joke between me and a coupla others on here, honest
However I do have a bit of an interest in saving petrol with the number of miles I do - the less I spend on fuel the more money is in the bank for something S14-engined

That's why I've built up one touring with a M50 Tu engine, am doing another with a M54, and possibly a third with a M20B27 bottom end and a 2.0 head.

What lack of refinement? I don't know what state some of you let your cars get into, but I regularly drive a couple of modern cars as well (Audi A3 and last model Astra SRi), and find my E30s every bit as refined and quiet, a lot more confortable on long runs, and a far better driving experience all round.

It was a good ride on long hauls but around town the e30 got on my nerves, the suspension just coudlnt cope with the 3rd world style roads around here

BMW still use virtually the same suspension on compact models. There's nothing wrong with them, and nothing wrong with my collection on rough roads. I think your suspension needs a good check over and sort out.

Altho
http://www.esatclear.ie/~bpurcell/318is ... witha318is this guy seems to to think E30 suspension is stiff at town speeds too. Depends what you define as harsh too i guess! I used to lower the tyre pressure on my E30s on purpose when i wasnt out for spirited driving cause it marginally improved the ride too
