I have my s50 engine number but no chassis or reg no.

went into the dealer to order my throttle cable but it lists 2 with no changeover or reason why. so they said to bring in a chassis or reg no. however seeing as my engine is minus the car it came with that is difficult

I've been told that you can find things like chassis no. from the engine number some how. Does anyone know?

I would doubt it without having access to the BMW databases, I imagine the dealer should be able to do that. The thing is the throttle cable change is probably to do with a chassis change, as you don't have the chassis, does it really matter which one it is?

I assume it's the same on the 3.0L, but on my 3.2L, the VIN number is on a sticker on the ECU.

The dealer only need the last 7 digits of this to know exactly what car you have.

Cheers,

Ian.

The VIN will look something like this.

Mine also had the identifying marks removed, but the sticker was still on the ECU.

my ecu has got the chassis no. sticker as well ian, i've used it at the dealers a few times.
it also works on my etk disc as a way of identifying the vehicle, build dates etc
