Do know which ignition circuits go to which pair of cylinders ?

M20 and M30 are the same firing order so mine should be the same as yours i think ?

Sorry for all the questions, you have been a big help to me thanks ;-)

No problem mate
ignition driver 1 goes to coil 1 for plugs 1 and 6
ignition driver 2 goes to coil 2 for plugs 2 and 5
ignition driver 3 goes to coil 3 for plugs 3 and 4
you dont use the main relay driver as in direct to ignition switch/main relay instead

Ah, same pattern as the injectors

Sorry if i am being thick but i don't know if i understand what you mean ?

If pin 4 is coil driver 3 and connects to the coil what do you use to trigger the relay ?

I've probobly got the wrong end of the stick though

Ah right, so you don't have a main relay you use the 12v + from the ignition switch to pins 11 + 28 ?

It's been a long time since i wired mine up. I think i have three relays, main relay, fuel pump relay and injectors/coil relay.

Time for bed,i'm knackered !

Is this the one ?

That looks like it mate, although he only paid Ԛ£349 about 4-5weeks ago so maybe theyve put the price up since.
I know they were also selling it at Ԛ£449 with a digi camera and some other stuff, but my mate just wanted the basic lap top.

I cant remember if its got a serial port, but that lead lentec posted will do the trick. Its got 4 USB 2.0 ports, but 2 are needed for the external CD writer.
Still, it does everything my mate wanted and isnt a bad spec either.

Todays update

Well, started well, was up an hour late  , arrived in Kent at aprox 1030 and got started. First off we made up the charge pipes, fitted air temp sensor, welded 90 degree bend, fitted dump valve and fitted all in from the intercooler back.
The coolant temp sensor was rethread, hole tapped and sensor fitted. Manage to finish all the wiring, checked and double checked. Then onto the fun part, dummy fitted manifold and downpipes, spot welded before proper welding was done. Only hitch we ran out of welding gas 10 mins from completion  , but that'll be sorted in the morning.
So just MS to get working and a few nuts and bolts and we're there.
Fingers crossed all will be well and I will be joining FI bmw crew by lunch tomorrow.

Now off for some food, rest and sleep before we start again.
I have loads of pics, most of Ant being silly with pieces of pipe, so will post when I get home Monday.

More info as it happens!

Nice alex, those throttle bodies are coming together real nice.

Well done Mark and Ant, sounds like you arn't to far away from being done now, please triple check things, i'm sure you will. Can't wait to see some more pictures of m20 turbos, it keeps giving me idea, which unfortunatly cost Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£'s.

Something i did and you might want to do is check the oil pressure to the turbo and check the flow rate by disconecting the return for a second and cranking it with a suitable container underneath. Then its a bit of guess work, but it seemed about right to me. You don't wanna blow the oil seals.

Also check for fuel leaks from wherever you have changed things, injectors, fuel regulator etc.

Big respect to you both

The dump valve was reccomended to me by a friend on e30tech, seems they like them big over there, not as loud as you would think tho, well maybe it will get louder with more boost, time will tell.

Drive home from Ant's was cool, was too hot for any fun, enjoy the lack of gear changes and the looks as it dumped, but with my exhaust blowing like a pig I bet they were more wondering why I was smiling so much even tho it sounded aweful :D

Managed the 90+ mile trip home in about an hour and half, stopped a few time to check wires weren't melted and and no leaks etc, all good apart from the air filter kept jumping off.

Tonight I fit a DEFI boost gauge and controller and a adjustable boost valve too, so should let me set the boost at 6psi and see what I'm getting. Been running blind till now.

More info/pics to come.

Will be getting a vent for the turbo at the weekend, getting the grinder out again should be fun :D

Another update!
I have changed the rockers/shafts on the exhaust side! did it on the car!!
Sounds a lot better now! only the usual m20 tickin.
alltho its feeling a bit limp under 4k rpm but when it gets there it roars then screams to 6.5k 8)
Have also removed crap from charger bores and rebuilt it so im going to have a go at refitting that this evening!

if all goes well might even make it to lakeside this weekend!

I think there might be a problem with where ive mounted the expantion tank!
Just cant get rid of the air locks! prob due to it being lower than the top hose
so made up a bleeder to fit in the hose see how that works this eve!

Just a quickie....

After quite a few painless miles, I decided to wind the boost a little, now running 0.3bar, was at 0.2bar, took her out last night in the cold and attached the G-tech, set weight @ 2750lbs (1250kgs) and set off.
After 10 mins of "thinking about it" I opened 3rd totally and was totally blown away, G-tech said max 260bhp, it was cold so I guess a few extra for that, but I'm over the moon, even tho my dump valves was leaking under boost, will tighten that tonight and see if it stops that.

More news as it happens :D

Sounds well  Mark, and thats only at just over 4 psi i think. It puts such a smile on your face i bet. just wait till you're on 7-8psi, but i suspect that it won't be proportionally double the power gain because of heat gains, flow paths e.t.c.

Just spent an hour changing the injectors back to 535 ones and tigtened the AFM 3 clicks/notches then went out for a drive. I tell you you can spin an automatic just by flooring it, but then its not a normal automatic! My poor goodyear eagle F1's. Well one of them. :D

It's fine all through first and second until the red line, no pinking, but under serious load like 100 mph in forth up a hill on a private testtrack, (steep testtrack too  ) it gives the slightest pink. So next is to use bp ultimate or the like, see if that cures it. Or i could stop being lazy and get an intercooler.

this is a common e30m30 problem too

if possible unbolt and lift the expansion tank up as high as you can against its hose, hold it with one hand, open bleed screw and rev the motor a little with the other.

the tank only needs to be high up while you're bleeding it.

After an almost succesfull test drive last night (apart from a little  with the charging) thanks again for the jump!
We had a bit of a play on the way home and found that raising fuel an extra 10% at my curent boost level 5psi made a hell of a differance :D So i raised it another 5% today :woohoo: no more knocking!!
Ant you was spot on about those injectors! they running 85% @ WOT/5psi any more boost will need bigger ones!

replaced the alternator (again!) voltage is now 14.2ish so think thats sorted

Just got a massive exhaust blow to sort now!

FI cars do like a LOT of fuel on boost dude  keep your eyes open for that MG V8 in the scrappers

85% is OK but as you say more boost and they'll easily go over the ton with some accel enrich thrown in the mix too

Nice to see you and the ride in the flesh Len( and mate, name forgot sorry ), mucho respect from all that turned out for sure.

Had a trial fit of the exhaust this weekend. It's not terrible, but on pretty much any droop of the suspension, the exhaust takes a whack from the trailing arm so that needs sorting.

Other than that, making reasonable progress with the TBs.

Think I need to just work on one thing at a time from now on instead of having bitsa days where I do one thing and then another.

Also discovered that the inlet manifold mounting holes aren't quite big enough to take a normal M8 fixing so I've spent some time today tapping them out to the proper size. Most bizarre!

Also got another thing to add to the list before the car's done: Was told I should not drive unless I'm wearing glasses as my eyesight's not up to scratch :(

Also gotta have a CT scan to make sure I don't have a brain tumor but that's another story.
