well well well....... all sounds a bit fooking sad to to me......dealerships checking your car to see if you're allowed a badge......didn't realise BMW got that petty!

As I see it, if you've got an MPower lump under the bonnet, you qualify for an m3 badge, and in the same way, if you've got m accessories then you are just as qualified to have an m badge.

ANd by the way, this has been gone over so many times but...cynical marketing ploy or not, the Motorsports are NOT just like any other 325 cabby. I won't go through it all cos everyone's heard it before but if you think that, check up on the specs!

yeah simon i think it looks fine. I was just wondering as I have seen some 'sports with them on and wondered if mine was missing it or never had it. Will leave it well alone I think as it is clearly a contentious issue!

Not quite, I don't think an M3 badge would look right on a 320is for example. Or a "standard" E30 with an ///M engine like Ian332i's.
if you've got m accessories then you are just as qualified to have an m badge.

Right i have chosen to put an ///M Badge on my 318 iS as the suspension, steering wheel, lip spoiler and gearknob and correct me if i am wrong the rear Brakes are all Motorsport additions and with my added parts such as M-Tech I side skirts and M-Tech II spoiler i feel as though my little beauty deserves the badge!!

*Steps down from soap box*

I'm with Ben on this, I'm to the stealers to get one for my front grill this week and maybe one for my bootlid too (if I'm feeling really rude)

For those that don't like it.... I would just like to point out BMW's traditionally came with very little kit as standard, a chap was given the options list at the dealership and could CHOOSE what he wanted, therefore personalising the car.

If we all agreed on everything life would be massivley boring and lets face it none of on this forum would have as much fun.

Rock on Ben, iS newbies stand together!!!

I am the proud owner of a 1985 316(4 door) it has the desireable 'gnarly' 1800cc carburettor mill churning out a rampant 90 bhp @ the spare wheel. I have just fitted a m tech 2 steering wheel and M TECHNIC door sill strips i chawed off a motorsport cab and a pair of sports seats i got from the local breaker for Ԛ£16 . She has a K+N induction kit and a oil cap i nicked off a M3 at gaydom. To finish it off i've given it the 80 mm (ish) 'council drop ' with the aid of a hacksaw and the gas axe and fitted a pair of used M3 rear shocks i got off ebay for Ԛ£6.78. I am rightly proud of my 'phat' chariot and went to my local dealer to get some M badges to finish off my motorsport confection. The partsman laughed at me and said "you ain't putting M badges on that sad turd sonny ", obviously i was taken aback by his rude insulting manner but asked why ? his reply was " imagine you had just dropped 65 bags on a M5 and you seen smegma like your e30 on every street corner, you would surely want your M badges removed or worse still you would want to sell the car. We at BMW obviously don't want this to happen so will not condone supplying badges to people with cars that never originally came so equipped " i then cried and chinned the cnut ! :)
P.S anyone got any spare M badges?

there's nowt wrong with an ///M badge on a car so long as it has the kit on it IMO.

I'm sure I've seen plenty of E39's out there with M badges on the rear when clearly they are a 520 and by which the dealer has gladly taken the punters trousers down for most of the options list and then sent them on the way with a stick on badge for the boot, the irony of it all!

I have the ///M badge on my grill and to start with took it off for not wanting to insult people but after a while I thought fcuk you, it's my motor and I'll do what I want with it.

I am not pretending my car is a M3 and it doesn't have an M3 badge.

The question has to be asked, if these ///M badges are the spawn of the devil, why were the stealers happy to sell them for so many years.

Plus let's face it, as soon as your model has been discontinued you are scum to most dealers anyhow!
