Im just having a ponder about sticking a Turbo on an M10. Ive got quite a good spec n/a M10 and am wondering which bits can be carried over. I'm looking for an exhaust manifold which is proving difficult but there are alot of turbo ones out there which is tempting me.....ALOT.
I have a 2002 2.0 tii bottom end built into an e30 m10 (stronger) block. The pistons im guessing will be to high compression as they are the piano top 11-1 jobbies.
The head I have is a 518i which has the injector holes bunged up for twin 40's. It also has double valve springs, 3 angle valve grind, new valves and guides, polished combustion chambers and exhaust ports and a 292 cam.
I seem to remember reading somewere that the 292 cam is usable for a turbo build. Are there any differences for turbo cams?
With the rest of the current setup am I right in thinking that if the cam is usable then all I would need is some lower compression pistons to build into the bottom end and sort out a 2002/318i inlet manifold and injection system? Then manifold, turbo, intercooler and some kind of management?

^that guy is using what I think is an N/A Schrick 304 cam. Keep the cam and just put in some lower comp pistons and you'll be away.
I'd use this manifold http://store.666fabrication.com/m10-4-i ... -mani.html

That 666 fab manifold looks the part, There all sorts of turbo manifolds out there for the M10. I might look to start with a 2002 turbo one to get it going.
I think a good starting point would be to fit a 318i/518i/2002 injection manifold, injectors and throttle body. Sort out megasquirt and maybe run this on the N/A setup whilst sorting out the manifold, turbo, intercooler and low comp pistons. This means I can still use the car with the inlet ready to go for the turbo setup. It means I can get used to tinkering with the megasquirt too. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

You'll have to map it twice if you go NA first, then turbo.
What about adding injectors (and efi) into your head and using the carbs as individual throttle bodies and keeping the high comp set up? (I read about Dave Walker - the tuner - doing something similar.)

I'm not sure im really in 2 minds about it.
Part of me thinks that for the fuel consumption im getting with the carbs its worth just going all out with turbo.
The other part thinks I should just run mappable ignition to improve things (its really holding the engine back) and keep it old school with just a nice amount of power......it does sound amazing on carbs too.
