Guys,

I changed the oil on the motor on the weekend and upon doing so thought I would check my plugs too....Of the 4 plugs that I checked, 1 of them was covered in oil?? What the fook does this meen?? Can anyone help....I know I need to change the head gasket, could that be the reason why??

Any help would appreciated as always.....!

It could be a valve stem oil seal or a worn piston ring.
The oil seal goes over the valve, inside the rocker cover.

If you need to do your head gasket, i would recommend you replace all of the valve stem oil seals too (as you cant do them properly without removing the head)
Also check for movement in the cylinder.

this happened to me the other week mate, i was replacing them and number 3 was covered

people suggested piston rings, head gaskets, and simple valve smtem covers.

in the end i took the vlave cover off, took the gaskets off, cleaned them all up replaced them and iv run it for at least ten minutes and there is no more oil or number 3!

let us know fella

Cheers Guys,

Am I able to just take the Cam cover off, clean it up and replace the gasket with a new one?? And bob's your uncle!

Is there anything that I need to know when I take the Cover off?? As i've not done this before.......

the gasket is rubber so only needs replacing if damaged etc, if not it can be jus cleaned and reused

as for doing anything, checking the gaskets on the underside of the cover

wen i did mine the other week, i was just extremely careful what i touched, and made sure not to drop shit in etc

how comes u takin the cover off fella

You have totally lost me dude

I thought there was only 1 cover that I needed to take off to replace or clean the gasket and that's the Rocker Cover? Do I just undo the bolts, clean up whatever needs cleaning and then replace the Cover.....

ok

the cover itself has a rubber gasket all the way around it, this is the one that dont need replacing, unless split, it just needs a good clean

if u then look on the underside of the cover, near the four holes, there will be three ) shaped gaskets and one "lolli-pop" shaped gasket, these are what stop oil getting into your spark plugs. they also need to be checked

Are there any other signs of a cracked head Karan, besides oil in the plug?? The oil is fine no MAYO to be seen anywhere....It still pulls ok, even for a motor that's done so many miles (196,100 to be exact)...I hope not..

oil/water consumption are a giveaway.....particularly water on the m42....although this can also be down to the profile gasket

The water is ok, I check it regular...The oil, it's burning a little more than it should, but I have just put this down to the engine wear...Need to get this sorted. Thanks for the advice Karan. :thumb:
