looking at spending 4k this time next year, (quit smoking and using the money to buy a dream car!) a car to be cherrished and driven twice per month (you get the idea!)
i want the car to go up in value and be a true classic.
i was thinking of these cars:
e34 M5
e36 M3
e34 alpina (not got a clue with these so if some one could advise a model and price range that would be great!)
e30 alpina
e31 8 series v8 manual
e34 540i v8 manual
what would be the best choice for an investmant? any other sugestions fine as long as its a bmw and somthing rare in or around my price range!!

I reckon an e34 M5 is your best bet. They are the last of the handbuilt M5s and you can currently get a good one for aroung £4000 if you look carefully. Plus they are already going up in value!

My fav BMW of all time!!!e34 alpina (not got a clue with these so if some one could advise a model and price range that would be great!)

Be prepared to pay the price though
I saw a minter on PH for a good few months - the guy wanted just a touch over 10K for it.
EDIT: Found the 'minter'. Dropped the price by about 500 quid i think!

Mind you, I saw one on ebay or was it pistonheads? Going for 1K but needed TLC! Can't access ebay from work so will post a link when i get home..

A Biturbo is a very different car to an 'ordinary' E34 Alpina . Nice ones start at 10k and need continuos fettling and cash injections. Ordinary E34 Alpinas start ar £1500 for tired rubbish , £3500 should buy something decent , like my white B10
They are basically a 535 with some nice bits so if you buy a decent car they should not cost fortunes to keep up to scratch.

A 4k E28 M5 will probably be a turd. I would go for a 3.6 M5 if the EDC is such a worry, they are not going to get much cheaper. Although a nice Alpina E34 would probably be cheaper to keep.

Didn't say it was perfectNot even a sport interior
Limited production line...genuine Alpina.. mileage okay with the age - would be worth a nice restoration funds permitting.
