Hey chaps, do I have to replace the nut on the diff pinion when replacing the seal?
Thanks

It is important that you DON'T replace the nut.
Before undoing anything, mark the position of the nut relative to the pinion shaft and the position of the flange.
Unscrew the nut, counting the number of turns.
Dismantle, replace the seal and reassemble.
Tighten the nut with a torque wrench set to 185 Nm for a M20 thread or 210Nm for a M22 thread.
Don't exceed these figures, and don't go past the original marked position of the nut. ABOVE ALL, DON'T GO PAST THE MARK AND THEN BACK THE NUT OFF.
Ideally, the torque wrench should crack with the nut exactly in its original position. If it cracks a small amount before this, then that is OK, but if the nut reaches its original position at a lot less torque, then the diff has other problems and needs proffesional attention (or binning).

There is a securing plate for the nut that has to be removed before you unscrew the nut, and that should be replaced by a new one.

Agree with Brian.
Also, you need a thin walled socket.

Does that mean though that you should continue to tighten the nut until you reach the mark?Ideally, the torque wrench should crack with the nut exactly in its original position. If it cracks a small amount before this, then that is OK
