yeap, apparently to do with the age / version of the car itself.. thing is, when we were looking at the shifters on the other thread, there was only one shifter.......ahh ive just sused it!!!!!!

one is for the 2.8
one is for the 3.0

the shorter one is the 3.0, so i guess ill be havin that then!!

hi johnono, i guess you'll have to splash out on a short shift gear knob too, or will an E30 knob fit the shorter shaft?

from the picture it looks as if the Z4 2.5 has a similar throw to the standard E30

i went from standard to Z3 1.9 just before people started suggesting Z3 2.8, Z3M, Z4 etc. The difference was great for the first couple of drives but now i want a shorter throw again!

The shift length has to do with the distance from the ball to the end, not the length of the shifter itself. that makes the Z3-M the shortest shift, then the Z4-3.0. the Z4-2.5 would be quite a long shift.

Z4-3.0 looks like the boy to go for, nice short shaft too. (Yes I know that motorsport says it should be at 9 o'clock from the steering wheel, but what would they know )

true true, i want a very stubby shifter, with the added bonus of a shorter shift so the z4 is a perfect mix for me

They didnt to a 2.8 Z4, they've always be 3.0l hmmm. Any know know who made the photo with all the different ones on it? They'd be the person to confirm which ones which I guess :) There's not been a face lift yet either I dont think.
