iv recently fitted a viper chip to my IS, and recently cleaned the throttle body too, and cleaned cam cover and inlet manifold, and replaced the gaskets on that, cleaned my air filter housing and tunes etc, and replaced them
before i did this, my car iddled perfectly at around 800 revs no problems
now it idles between 500 - 1100 and even stalls sometimes straight away
i guess this rules out the idle valve rite?
n e ideas what else it could be/??

Could be an air leak if the idle is "hunting". I take it you`ve tried the wd40 trick to spot a leak?
Failing that you might as well clean the icv anyway and at least you`ll know its not that if your problems continue.

icv=idle control valve
Start the car then with your trusty wd40, spray it all around the inlet pipes, especially where you tinkered with your motor and any escapes will be noticed in a change of rev pitch. It might drop or increase. If it does you have spotted your problem(s) Come to think of it it might be carb cleaner you use

ye
im pretty sure its not the ICV as it was workng before i polished my engine bay
i think iv got it down to either an air leak, inlet manifold leak, or temp sensor

may be worth putting the original chip back in before you start stripping anything else. could be the root

thats what i thought but no one iv spoken to has said that the viper chip does this
iv got a new inlet manifold gasket coming as i didnt replace that, iv secured all the hoses got rid of the cracks and cleaned my ICV this morning, and bought new TB gaskets an put them on
so 2moro if the inlet manifold gasket doesnt do it, il try the chip

When i tried a chip on my iS the idle was all over the place. Admittedly it wasn't the Viper2 but other peeps who used the same chip didn't get the hunting idle.
I just went back the old chip and everythings fine!

no experience with viper, but it may take a while for the ecu to run properly after replacing the chip and disconnecting/reconnecting the computer.318-is wrote:iv recently fitted a viper chip to my IS, and recently cleaned the throttle body too, and cleaned cam cover and inlet manifold, and replaced the gaskets on that, cleaned my air filter housing and tunes etc, and replaced them

That's what you have to do mate, the drive will improve as the ECU gradually learns the new parameters. I wold have thoguht 700rpm was abotu right for a standard idle?318-is wrote:iv driven it for about half an hour an it now idles stabley, but only at about 700 rpm??
If (as with my 325) your previosu idle was higher, someone may have shorted a couple fo pins on the ECU to raise it artificially - apparently it was a common mod.
