Just noticed today that when i switch my side lights on not only does the bulb at the top of the light illuminate but also the light from the back of the projector also come on not the headlight though as its not as bright
When i switch the headlights on the headlight come on fine and high beam works fine .
Is this normal ?
I assumed that when switching on the side lights only the bulb at the top of the light should come on

i know its very bizarre.
sidelight works fine when ignition is off but once you turn the key the light comes on .
Must be the headlight bulb getting a weak feed from somewhere
its definately not the headlight coming properly on cos when you turn it on it is much brighter.
could this be an earthing issue ?

with the sidelights on and the engine running the small bulb at the top of the headlight should be on and the dipped beam headlight bulb should be on but not at full brightness.

just fiited angel eye bulbs but would look better if the main beam wasn't on a bit when the side lights are on.

It's a dim-dip function, only early facelift cars were fitted with it, if you remove your N/S headlight grill, you will see a small silver unit mounted to the inner wing, unplug the wiring running to it, and the dim dip won't light up anymore.
Dim-dip was designed for people who would forget to switch from side lights ti dipped beam when it get's dark!

Was only fitted to early post facelift cars, and was intended to stop muppets driving around on parking lamps only.
If you really want to get rid of it, then you will find the resistor pack on the left hand inner wing, right at the front. It connects to the loom by two 2 pin round rubber plugs and sockets. Unplug these connectors and the dim dip function will be disabled.
