Pre 88 cars with M tech suspension have bilstien B6's and post 88 cars with M tech suspension have Boge dampers.
The B4 is the bilstein equivilent of the boge M tech damper.
If your car is on its original dampers then yes they will be B6's.tinnaM42 wrote:well mine is a d registered tech 1 so does that mean it has b6's on already? and are the boge dampers better than the b6s
The B6's are better than boges but the B4's and boges are cheaper than B6's and B8's.

This all sounds an awful lot of money for non adjustable shocks? actually i've been looking for coilovers that are height and ride adjustable are there any that dont cost 1k?
I can get skyline driftworks coilovers for 500 or vdub coils for less why they so blinking much for us??

I contacted the place I'm getting the arbs from and they have said that the bushes are available as a special order, so it might be worth giving an H&R dealer a call and see what they can do.
Barry, I'm hoping so, can't wait to get it all fitted.

you can get Hot tuning coilovers for under 300, but they are crap
You buy spax adjustables for 500, and their coilovers for about 700
But on an e30 I'd run and recomend bilstens any day of the week.
Proven on road and track.
The next best for a track biased set up is Gaz or Leda coilovers. I recon, converted strut to a coilover with bilstens inserts and custom poundage springs would actually be great way forward and me great set up...............
Seen it once on a production bmw race car and he was a front runner in the championships.
that's what I have had built up for my M3.

coilovers are never cheap for an e30 because the strut is attached to the hub carrier/ stub axel assembly, unlike most other cars where they bolt to the hub carrier.mc_hawkings24 wrote:This all sounds an awful lot of money for non adjustable shocks? actually i've been looking for coilovers that are height and ride adjustable are there any that dont cost 1k?

It also means you'll nearly always need to send a set of front struts in exchange for them to modify. Not too much of an issue on normal e30s where you can still pick up a secondhand spare set cheaply. My m3 would be wearing coilovers now if it wasn't for the exchange issue. I don't like the idea of not being able to return the car to standard in the future.

I'm confused, were pre-88 Mtech suspension setups lower? I thought the difference between B6 and B8 is that B6 are shorter to suit a 60mm drop.bss325i wrote:Nope.tinnaM42 wrote:are b4s fitted as standard on sport models ??

Jay your car isn't a tech 1, it's a 325i with a tech 1 kit, it might not have B6's ontinnaM42 wrote:well mine is a d registered tech 1 so does that mean it has b6's on already? and are the boge dampers better than the b6s
No both were the same 15mm lower than standard its just a B6 is more suitable due to the shorter rod.Morat wrote:I'm confused, were pre-88 Mtech suspension setups lower? Do the B8's come with a new strut locking ring? Do you get the dust cover as well?
Yes they should come with new dust covers and locking rings.scott180gtb wrote:Do the B8's come with a new strut locking ring? Do you get the dust cover as well?
Those fronts are for 45mm struts, hope they're the right ones?RicoSuave wrote:I'm just about to order new front and rear B8's on eBay.
They do the set for £415 inc VAT and delivery. Hope this helps.
If you're after the 45mm fronts why not pay £35 more and get this b12 kit which includes Eibach springs (usually around £150ish on their own)?

Or better still, ditch the 45mm struts and replace them with some 51mm struts.clarko74 wrote:Those fronts are for 45mm struts, hope they're the right ones?RicoSuave wrote:I'm just about to order new front and rear B8's on eBay.

More heavy duty and as far as i know, vented discs instead of solid ones.RicoSuave wrote:Well as I have a 316 I'm currently running 45mm struts.
Is there really that much difference in upgrading to 51mm?
