Hello All,

The fuel pump has died on the 1989 316i so I got a replacement from GSF who say that they are all the same from 316i to M3.
However, the fuel pump I got from them is shorter then the one coming out and looks quite different. Both are Bosche though.
Has anyone got any ideas if there is a different pump I need - and more importantly where I could get it.

Thanks in advance
John

they are all pretty much the same.
some have 2 pipes, while others have 1.
they should be the same length.
some have a circular brown plastic thing on, while others have an oval metal one.

the flow rate is Massive for these pumps (you can drain a half full tank in 10 minutes)

I wouldnt have gone to GSF or ECP for one coz IMO they are Way overpriced.

Scrappy.... "Fiver Mate"

there's two different tank sizes and two different pump lengths

where can you get a new one cheaper smithy?

fuel fumps DO fail, and will then leave you stranded. i've messed about with plenty Ԛ£5 fuel pumps and they aren't the best idea, they don't like having sat around doing nothing in a scrapyard.

most things i'm happy to replace with second hand but fuel pumps are asking for trouble, i think the GSF price is worth the money

I do agree Toby. I went through 3 scrap yard pumps before i found a good one (i test before i buy)

New ones are expensive as hell though.

however there is a (quite dangerous) fix if your pump breaks...

You hero! how did you manage to get home with out gassing yourself & blowing yourself up?

Personally i think I'll ring the AA, mind you I've never had to call for relay whilst driving a BM. My girlfriends last 2 Renault's are a different story....
1 & 2 bed flats in Bournemouth areas, with parking

iv read about quite a few people doing that

was it on an m10 carb engine or an injection one? i'm impressed if it worked on an injection system! i don't think a washer bottle pump would make 3 bar.

M40 318i
The pump on an M10 is attached to the cam shaft.

Thanks, that explains it then - pity GSF in Dublin didn't know that.

I was going to put in a second hand one too but considering how much of a pain the a**e it is when it goes miles away from home I'm going for anew one. It's be a false economy to have to get the car towed twice.

Thanks for the help
John
