This is a question for all our welding Heros!

IF i can find a 2door roof, how much work / how much money would it cost me to have a new roof welded into my Sport please?

I gave myself the ultimate Christmas present today - a look into the roof skins and it confirmed what I expected to find.....
serious tinwom!

So this is My Sports last stand - Either I find a welding Hero to chop my roof off and weld another one on, or my Sport gets broken..... Its like the Gunfight at the O.K.Corral, starring E125FPF.

Suitable Heros need to be able to show evidence of previous work (XWorks and Beardymatt are exempt from needing to show pictures for obvious reasons)

My Sport has a sunroof but I dont want this happenign again, so please, if you know of a NON-Sunroof car or of a crashed car with mint roof, please let me know.

Cheers

Scott

Additional - Does anyone have any contact details for Beardymatt? I wont ask for them to be given across the tinternet, but if anyone has his contact details, would you please be kind enough to get in touch with him and let him know that theres a thread here pretty much specifically for him.

Thanks again!

just a shame your so far away Scott. my brother has previous experience on doing this kind of job. he replaced the roof skin on his mk2 escort plus a load more welding to get it to the condition its in.

If I can get it done to a mint standard mate, i'll drive the thing the length of the country to give it to someone whos work I like.

"local" isnt an issue..... "quality" is - thats the problem I had in the first place - The original garage I used didnt cut the rust out as I asked... they just filled over it and made it look good.

No worries Kos, thanks for the assistance!
Either a Hero does it (properly) or my car is relegated to beign "just another Tech 1" on the boat to China to become a baked bean can.

roof skins aren't welded on scott they're brazed in at the top of each pillar. Gary who did my 2door is fantastic. He changed the sunroof cartridge on mine as the roof skin itself was good. Look at my resto to see the work he out into my shell. Only prob is they're in Croydon but you won't find anywhere who can do a better job 100%

A new sunroof roofskin comes with the cartridge on it already

Simons work was done at Renault where i used to work. Renault pulled the plug on that site and made us all redundant but a chain of bodyshops took over the site and turned it back into just a bodyshop but took on pretty much all of the old Renault bodyshop staff. The painter you need to ask for is Adam and the panel guy is Gary. Insist they do the work! They may be reluctant to take the work on as they are very busy with accidient repair and are about to go Mercedes and Aston martin approved so will get even more busier.

Here are their contact details.

http://www.dws-bodyworks.co.uk/vsite/Co ... roydon.php

To give an idea of price, when they were still Renault, they quoted Ratch £1200 to replace the whole roof. This may well be different now.

Oh and just to ad, Gary can braze perfectly well. Check Simons resto thread as he had the rear panel replaced which has brazed joints.

the recaro availability hangs on me being able to get my roof done at a realistic figure.....
if the roof is a go-er, the recaros stay. if the roofs £1500+, i bust the car and probably sit on the driveway and cry when the shell gets lifted by the hi-ab as it would have all been a waste of time and money if that happens.
