Driving home from work on Friday afternoon, off a roundabout onto the motorway on-ramp same as I do every day, sudden loss of traction... BANG!

I woke up in hospital with a sore neck and a couple of light scrapes and was told I'd hit a lamp post. Walked out a couple of hours later after some routine checks and went home.

It hit home on Saturday when I went to the salvage yard to see this:

I am lucky indeed. Thanks for your advice regarding the insurance Lee, I decided to make a claim as the car was fully comp. They are still assessing the wreck but they've advised me that I should be able to buy it back.

The lamp post was missing a head and has a big dod of red paint on it. I guess the council will eventually want to fix it.

Oddly enough there was another E30 with the same kind of damage 2 cars along in the salvage yard. A nice looking Lazur Blue tech 2 with alpinas/reps.

The lamp posts are fighting back!

there's no way you'll be buying that back mate, that's cat B minimum. That's a much bigger bang than I thought.

After looking at the pics, I'd say you have made the right decision to go through the insurance as there probably isn't that much salvageable from it other than the lump and maybe some drivetrain parts

If the car is at your work place though, you may be lucky and the insurers won't be arsed to arrange uplift of the salvage.

Glad your ok. Lucky inteed. Same sort of damage Lee only worse. You are lucky to walk away from that.

I would enquire about buying it back even if its cat c mate. Regester your request now and re shell it if they will let you have, its a long shot like looking at it.

Just reading through the posts and noticed a strong similarity between them,
i.e everyone saying "your lucky" not really that lucky tbh he has written his car off how is that lucky?
now i know everyone will be saying "he is lucky in the context of the situation", "he could of lost his legs", "he could of been badly hurt" etc etc.

in my opinion, lucky would of been to get home safe and not crash! its because we all do this daily that we take it for granted and when something like this happens we say "that was lucky" .????
I know im gonna get some stick for this but its only an opinion, dont get too worked up boys.

that's because he was fooking lucky !

a freind of mine lost his life in a side impact that didn't look half as bad as that,

that is a very hard drivers side impact, and to get out with a few scratches is fantastic, well done fella :)

Car crashes happen all to often, more often than not its because people are not driving to suit the road conditions.

I know of 2 people that died in car crashes because of driving to fast round corners, and loosing it. So yes Mr White is very lucky to still be talking to us zoners after that crash.

I just hope there is not too many more zoners going to be in similiar positions, because it won't be long before we don't get a post like this but a rather more upsetting one.

Seriously am glad to see you got out of an accident like that almost unscathed!

Look boys im glad he is still hear and have also had friends killed in accidents, i think what im trying to say is that we all need to appreciate coming home after each journey and also realise how "lucky" we are NOT to crash at all. the roads are dangerous places and ever more so in these conditions,

"Lucky" isnt about crashing your car and walking away to tell the story, its about surviving every journey without a crash and more importantly remembering that.
