Leaking diff

Whilst my car was up on ramps today I noticed the tell-tale signs of a leaking diff, the o/s drive axle where it meets the diff. Is this a big job (expensive)?? Don't reckon I could do it myself (no ramps/axle stands etc for starters) so any expense would be labour am I right? Or am I better finding a non-leaking diff and getting somebody to put that in?
