I have just done an engine swap. Car starts fine, but idles rough. if you give it some gas it runs pretty smooth. The other thing is that the tac does not work. I have checked the resistance in the speed sensor. Pulse sensor on my 1989 325i and it is right on with the bently manual says it should be. HELP!!!

spray WD40 around the head where the inlet manifold is bolted up. If it monentarily restores a smooth idle, then your gasket/ inlet ain't mated up right. Also, O rings on the metal tube with the spring that goes from below the manifold to the crank case/ is the tube mounted into the holes correctly?

If your engine had cooked itself before and you have used the same temp sensor then that may need changing as if it has been red hot, I think it fools the ecu into over-fueling, but I may be wrong on that one.

Worth a try anyway
