This car is packed full of potential for mine. Anyone had any experience with them - are parts still available?
Very tempting winkeye :D

That's around 4300 pounds given current exchange.

Very rare car in Australia now ~ that one looks to be quite good for the price. Very good, actually.

Exchange rate has been up recently - closer to 4000 I reckon

Laid down a deal on this classic today.
Took the car for a good run and it is a beauty - pulled strongly up to 120km/h and handled nicely for a car built 35 years ago in spite of pretty tired shocks.
Checked the whole car over and only found a few fairly minor blemishes.
Pick it up on Thursday - Christmas present from me to me - SORTED :D :D

Great buy! I'm sure you won't regret it. I had this 2000 Touring for a couple of years (pic whoring!):
Image

So far it's the best car I've had (I'm only 22 though!). They handle really well for such an old car and they keep up with modern traffic. It could also dispatch chavvy corsas with ease, which really p****d them off. Unfortunately mine suffered from bad rust so I had to get rid of it.

The M10 is also a really tuneable engine. With twin 40 carbs, new valves, cam etc you can easily get in excess of 160bhp which makes them seriously quick.

The following websites are ones that I used for parts. I don't know if they would be able to ship to Australia, but they were always very helpful and a large number of parts are still available:http://www.wallothnesch.com/e/index.htm , http://www.jaymic.com/shop/default.asp

Hope this is useful. :)

Great, thanks mate. The links will be real handy as these cars are very scarce here. I have found a couple of US sites selling reproduction and original parts too. I was surprised by it's power for a totally stock engine - a lot more energetic than my old E21 318i.
I plan to keep the car virtually stock (need to get some cool original hub caps  ) but the engine will get a refresh and probably twin webers.
Hope my E30 doesn't get jealous and let me down

Cracker, well done. :D

I know a man who's got a 1973 one and he's putting E21 rear disks on it. Sounds like a sensible thing to do IMO.

If I was you I'd go for the 13" BMW Alpina style wheels. They are the best looking wheels for a 2002. If I find a picture of any I'll post them up.

Love the Touring - like E30s, Touring never sold in Aus.
Are those wheels from an E21? I had some very similar on an old E21 318i.

Yep those wheels are the ones. IIRC the e21 versions might have a different offset. There are sets for '02s. Look

Unless you're planning on racing (and even if you are with a standard-ish car) rear discs aren't really much improvement on an 02 as the car is very light, especially at the rear...If you do fit rear discs, it is worth getting and fitting a brake bias valve to avoid locking up the rears and reducing the braking effort...

E21 (and E30) wheels will physically fit, but are the wrong offset...If you go larger than 13", and with certain tyres, the rears will rub without rolling the arches or fitting a turbo style arch kit...

The standard carbs are a bit of a weak point...as are the distributors...It is very common for the advance spring plate slots to wear causing poor starting, bad idling and low power...

But the M10 is, in general, a very strong and reliable motor, easily tuned, as said, to give decent power upgrades

Thanks guys. Looking forward to picking her up tomorrow night.
It is a bit of a stretch for us as we will have 4 cars between two of us.
I new I was good to get it when we turned up for the test and as we pulled up, Ange (my partner) said "Awwww, it's soooo cute" :D

E21 wheels have the wrong offset but you can get away with them if you don't lower the car, the E30 has the perfect offset and a set of 15" BBS with 195/50/15 will fit nicely but they do look a little too modern for a 2002.

If you're looking at carbs then twin 40s are a nice choice, M10 as already said is a strong engine. I take it the Australian '02s also had the twin brake servo set-up? they ok on yours?

Got the car home tonight - 120km trip and didn't miss a beat in pouring rain :D
Had a real good look and the paint is almost immaculate - resprayed about 5 years back.
Anyone recommend a good 2002 forum? Might have to split my time with this site

I don't know about any forums off the top of my head buyt I've had a look at this site when researching old Recaros and it seemed quite useful:
