ive only had my car for just over a month and its averaging 45 miles to £20 petrol surely this cant be right!
it is short jorneys just round town driving not flat out either
if i just slighty touch the throttle is has a little splutter and will kangaroo a bit in 4th gear if again slightly touching the throttle the throttle after this is fine but anything over just touching the throttle the economy gague goes straght down to 10 or 12 mph
as far as i no engine is standard bar a k n air filter and scorpion exhaust
idles 1000-1050 and 1300 ish on choke
it doesnt reak of fuel either
i thought it would do 15 -20 mpg but been told they should do 20-25
f plate 325 sport
any help will be appreciated

To be honest, short journey's around town 15-20 is what I would expect, yours does seem a bit thirsty though at around 12 miles per gallon!, I had a e32 730i that was doing 9 mpg around town, my old 306 1.8 did 16 mpg around town and my e28 525e is averaging 18 mpg!
Mind you beats walking !!

This is a very imprecise way of calculating your consumption.
If you work the consumption out properly, you'll likely find that it's actually not as bad as the 11mpg you're quoting here.
Then, you'll have a better idea if there is anything wrong with the car.

If the filter is a 57i cone, or similar, then.....e30sportchris wrote:as far as i no engine is standard bar a k n air filter and scorpion exhaust
..... is probably being caused by the filter. Not to put to fine a point on it, they're shite and cause all kinds of running problems on standard engines. If your consumption is worse than it should be, a cone filter won't be helping. Bin it and put a standard airbox on with a good quality filter in.e30sportchris wrote:if i just slighty touch the throttle is has a little splutter and will kangaroo a bit in 4th gear if again slightly touching the throttle

My 325 touring returned 26 MPG when I ran it on petrol. That was country roads and small town driving; journeys of up to around 15 miles normally. Didn't change much on longer (motorway) journeys either!
If your car is idling at 1000 RPM there is definitely something wrong with it. First thing to check would be the correct operation of the throttle position switch.
