oil cap has white residue ##SORTED##

i have just checked my oil cap and there is white residue. i believe this means the head gasket is going. its a 316i touring. is it expensive to sort out

Not nessesarily (sp) the head gasket,could quite simply be condenstion causing it,that wouldn't be unusal at this time of year, with the outside temp changing so much.

Would be worth however getting it checked at a garage to be sure.
Most garages can perform simple tests to determin whether or not it has gone.
Make sure they don't just say "yeah it's gone" to get the business though!!!

Best way to tell is to stick your finger into the expantion tank on the radiator (WHEN ITS COLD) and if there is oil, then it might well be Gasket.

Mine had the mayo around the cap last November i think, but it had been still in my garage for a week, i checked it again after i had been using it and was all clean!
