No. 316's are all M10, only the 316i was M40. The M40 316i arrived a year after the 9/87 facelift.e30bmlover wrote:lmao.... so it is... werent the facelifts m40 powered??DanThe wrote:That will be an M10 mate, remember, they have F1 heritage

ok lol... i will take your word for it andy... im sure the car will be a little diamond! i just hope and prey that mine will come back running like a little diamond lol.. then the comparison video will be posted.. of how a m50 inleted b28 should rev when its not 70 odd psi down one one cylinder and 50 psi down on the other lmao. . then maybe i can stop spending on it.. although i will disclose the figure of how much it has cost me since my ownership!! once the new anchor is in.. the figure given will be without suspension!! lets put it like this its over 1k EASY!! lolAndyboy wrote:No. 316's are all M10, only the 316i was M40. the turd will be leaving my company on friday 27th of november... the lads at big bavarian will sort it! i have faith in them!!
the mobil 1 5/30 fully synth has turned up.. all 7ltrs
bmw have my parts ready... sump gasket, plugs, oilfilter, thermostat(88 degree) airfilter and some other little bits a cant remember... euro car parts will be getting a call for the kwp waterpump(thanks dan) and zi sachs clutch kit.. a new clutch is a must as the one in the turd at the moment slips when you give it some from the lights.. and i figured the smell of burning could only suggest its a luk clutch and its @ucked lol...
so im nearly there!... she will hopefully come back as she was intended to run... fingers crossed eh??

i see you have got a new thermostat, but could you get a new housing too! they are plastic and crap, and normally crack once re fitted and run up to temp. you could get a metal one but if memory serves they are about £100, so a new plastic one will be fine!

the time is near for her to go away.. i phoned bbb yesterday... it would appear that i will not be getting the chromie after all... i will be driving a... wait for it...... . . . . . . . . 318is lmao!!! well at least i will be beating scoobys through the twisties in the galvaniser!!! the m42 has got a fast road cam!! so i had better have my wits about me when driving it..

and shes gone!! at a glance penton08 said the engine looks like an m50... further investigation is needed.. i clamped eyes on the M52B28 and all looked well... i ended up with the 316 auto.. and what a fine chariot she is too.. keep fit windows.. 4x4 ride height.. manual steering.. but i enjoyed the ride home.. so fingers crossed the car should come back RUNNING AS A 328 SHOULD.

right... i heard from bbb today.. the clutch looks like new(sachS).. the dual mass flywheel is fucked.. so a billet steel lightened one will be fitted... now onto the engine... its a bit of an oddball... m52 bottom end with a m50 head... starnge one that.. so yeah its coming along nicely.

its not a m50 head!, but it has a alloy rocker cover and m50 oil filter housing. maybe it's a very early m52 using left over m50 bits?? anybody come across anything like this before?

im expecting very good things!! the lighter flywheel should help it spin up that bit quicker.. combined with a m52b28 that actually goes like one and the m50 manifold... yeah she should go quite well lol.

Only the very early (M reg, basically) 328i engines had the old type alloy top oil filter and the alloy cam cover. I hope it's a steel liner unit!

i drove her back today!! what a difference!! it actually pulls well in every gear!! the flywheel is a billet steel lightened one(by quite allot, e46 m3 item or something)... it pulls well up to 3k and then pulls allot harder to the redline... i will post the comparison video!! and a few pics... it will be going on a dyno in the new year... its pretty @ucking quick!.. well it feels it compared to the 316 lol. top work by bbb... thanks again fellas.

I bet that was fun when trying to overtake anything on the A140 - my old 316i needed military precision when trying to get past anything on the single carriageway sections!e30bmlover wrote:well it feels it compared to the 316

i was a totally different driver when i was behind the wheel of the 316.. there was just no point in taking it over 4k... none whatsoever!! i was sticking to speed limits and allsorts... now im back to my old self.. i had to give her a bit on the way home the car is a joy to drive at last! changing gear and dropping the clutch the revs drop like a lead weight, into the next gear bang the revs are there as is the torque... its a different car performance wise to what it was... i think the flywheel plays a good part too.darkchild wrote:I bet that was fun when trying to overtake anything on the A140 - my old 316i needed military precision when trying to get past anything on the single carriageway sections!e30bmlover wrote:well it feels it compared to the 316
