i think they are both about 194 bhp with the m52 having more torque
putting the inlet manifold + throttle body from a 2.5 m50 onto the m52 should see around 210 bhp maybe more when re mapped

both may have the same peak power as the 328 doesn't really have any advantage in the top end due to being restricted so much.
But, due to being a 2.8 and displacement always being a winner, it has a wider torque-band and "more area under the power curve" hence being the quicker car.
Peak horse-power is useless if you haven't a useable rev-range.
