Thats not alot then :D Has benjy sold his dipstick, sump + oil pick up?

Mines going well thanks. Bodged an e36 m3 airbox on becuase it was loosing so much power from the tiny air filter. (i mean bodged, with duct tape and everything!) :D - Trust me you won't be disappointed when your conversion is all done!

Dont know if you're interested but there is a german car meet in paignton on sunday. about 60 odd cars going at the moment.

if benjy is tonys mate, then yes, he sold it a couple of days before i needed it.

duct tape and cable ties are the way forward. winkeye

Doubtful about paignton as spending more than ive got to get bits for my conversion. Soon though.

Good to see thats its being started! Not the nicest weather to be doing an engine conversion in mind! Have you managed to find the last of the stuff you need?

I've been to Eko's place, and seen where he does this work! I wouldn't want to do much more than change a wheel, where he does these conversions! The man's a marvel!

pretty much, yes. i found a clio servo for £25 delivered, straight to tonys, result, as i didnt even have to remove it.

also found the sump etc, delivered straight to tonys again, for £70.

just an electric fan (hopefully tony to the rescue again) and some small stuff you need new, sump gasket, thermostat, oil filter etc which is no problem as most motor factors have these readily available in stock.

So very nearly there. 8)

you MUST fit the manifolds to the engine before putting the engine in, it's a monumental fight otherwise

Manifolds go in and out with engine in situ but you are right they are a bastard to do!
Actually getting them in and out is easy compared to getting them to fit/find a suitable route for the pipes to be rewelded.
Not going well for me admitedly and ill post some pics later(mainly for Millsy benefit).

Oh well back to the grindstone

Also, a public apology to Tony for causing him so much hassle on my conversion.

I have sold my Skyline and only have the wifes diesel galaxy (which i crashed yesterday but thats a different story  )

Tonys done a grand job so far working in the snow/rain/shitty weather and now my exhaust choice is causing him more pain, lol.

Just think, not long now and it will be finished and you'll never see it again. (until i need more work doing to it, but ill wait at least a week or 2 before that happens).

If the manifold causes too much chew I'd seriously consider moving it on and paying £30-£40 for a pair of M52 manifolds as Tony will know where he's at modifying a pair of them.

The S50 manifold, unless sorted properly like the BTB one of Jhonno's above, will always cause chew with fitment, areas of conflict are steering column, bulkhead just next to where the steering column comes through, the anti roll bar.

I'd also strongly suggest a heat wrap too as they kick out mega heat.

We have the m52 manifolds as a back up plan but as i have the s50 manifold we're (read Tony  ) going to try to get it to fit, yes it is an absolute pig and is taking some time, swearing to do, but, if it can be done, imagine Tonys conversions for others. Without the £1000+ price tag winkeye

Its worth a try, it should give better performance, better sound and at the very least looks awesome for not a lot of £££££ 8)

If not, does anyone want to buy a chopped s50 manifold? lol

Lee,as Millsy said the M52 manifolds are the back-up plan but it would be nice (even just to the eye) to have the S50 ones on.Im sure it can be done if a not a little crudley.
Thing is on Saturday gone we had myself, the guy welding them and 3 others all throwing different ideas and input in which to be honest just made it one large headfuck resulting in me getting virtually nothing done all day
Anyway im going to give it another go next Saturday.
Plan is to try and put number 6 primary pipe to number 5 on the collector and vice versa.Still not sure if that will work but its something that wasnt suggested by eiteher of us the other day so im prepared to give it a shot.Besides they are already chopped now so nothing to lose really.
Then there is the issue of fouling the steering joint and anti roll bar.
The only way I can see around this is to actually dent the manifold in to gain the clearence.
As for effecting performance ive no doubt in my mind that it will but will it really be that noticable on an M50 im not so sure it will to be honest?

Anyway couple of pics that show the problem areas and how the car currently stands(95% done).

is that an E36 rack on there Tony? The spline on the rack looks way closer to the manifold than mine.

Gives me an idea of what grief I may encounter if going E36 rack, I think I may end up getting shot of the S50 manifold and getting some M52 manifolds molested as I can't hack the slow steering of the E30 rack

Yes its a 36 rack mate.
Actually im just wondering.....ive put the rack spacers on top of the rack.....wonder if I put them below the rack will that give a little more clearence?
Is there even room with the M50 sump to lift the rack up?
Not sure but its something ill look into when im underneath it next.

You cant put anything under the rack, it will contact the sump, it has to be spaced down. We found Bobs rack was rubbing the sump.

I wouldnt want to be messing with those tubular's Tony, you must be mad! :D
