Actually, Spadge is quite correct. This shouldn't be here at all. I'll move this to "Other BMW Chat" as a temporary measure and a senior team member can resolve this one.

Good move fella !

Keep it on subject from now guys or it will simply dissappear !

If peeps have no interest in buying then desist from commenting.

The car is up for a considered price, if you are interested then fine, comment !

Simple ?

Now i'm confused Iain :?

Your asking people not to chat on a thread in a discussion part of the forum because it is an advert for a car which isn't allowed in this section

If it is allowed let me know and i'll advertise my 740 here as well.

An e38 just screams king of the council estate though.

You payed £1250 for that S plate 740i?

I thought you were a shrewd business man? :)

King of the council estate?

My car is totally standard and is far from council.

I like it and that is all that matters. If i wanted any BMW currently on the market i could have it but i choose to drive an older car as i like them and i couldn't give a monkeys what anyone else thinks.

Worth 2.5k all day long with a genuine 92 k on it.

I sold my N reg 4.0 auto a few months ago for 1800 with 167k miles to a nice Polish chap via Ebay so i doubt this will do anything but make me a handsome profit.

The difference between my car and yours Barry is the amount available and in the price/year range your aiming at there is a whole lot of choice and some bargains to be had.

Thing is Barry, we are in a recession and E39's in most guises are ten a penny. Parkers/glasses guides etc go out the window in a recession. Look up what E36 M3's "book" at and then look in the real world at what they are changing hands for along with lots of older BMW's..... (main dealers will always be the exception)

Looks very nice but too dear IMO, but as Clint Eastwood once said "opinions are like ar$ehole$, everybody has one" :D

You might JUST get a non filled in torodial tank in there with some butchery to the bottom of the LPG tank  In a non life threatening way. :)

Alternatively you could get all sad and remove the airbag suspension... :(

Prices have risen since the begining of the recesion, you only need to look at the market to see that.

The car is priced realisticly with regards to spec, history and condition. You will struggle to find a better condtion example with as much history, all main dealer.

A touring with no SLS? Just wont do...

Modify an LPG tank? Are you mad?

Back on topic, its obvious Barry has mugged some old dear of this E39 and is testing the higher end of the market first :)

I can't explain very well, but the bit where the valve sits, there is a bit of space underneath that usually has a vent pipe going down and out of the car, but on reflection the SLS pump area is pretty large. :? No go there.

I heard Barry forgot his glasses and saw the unique individual sill plates and assumed it was an m5 and payed 10 bags for it! It was one of those rare semi auto jobs. :P

It actually looks a nice one, a bad e39 is an expensive car.

I'm just waiting for Mr Parker to collect it as i agreed with his valuation :)

The thing is i have had it about 5 months now which for me is a very long time and i like it hence having never advertised it.

I may just dangle the rod in the ebay pond and see what i can catch though :)

Exactly. This car wants for nothing and wont for some time.

It belonged to a company director and has never wanted for anything.

I seldom look at anything 52 or newer Jon as I wont EVER pay a bag in rent for the year! The facelifted E39 M5 however is just outside that bracket winkeye And not much dearer than Barrys 525! winkeye

You're only half right. Book prices are out of the window because anything half tidy is making way, way over book at auction. Because new car sales slowed right down, there was (and still is) a vacuum in the market for nice clean late model lumpy tackle.
There were a number of older BMW's in my local sale, Mannheim Auctions in Huthwaite last Thursday. A P plate 528i Auto went for £950 plus commission - not a bad car but not mint, Oxford green with the shitty spoon alloys and velour. That car would have been £1250 out of the gates and is currently £1995 on a forecourt. It'll sell - car dealers are not fools.
W plate 520i Auto in silver, super clean pre facelift, £1900 plus auction fees, £2995 on the pitch no doubt.
When it comes to E39's, even rubbish makes 500 quid.
They're seen as a nice middle order car, not too thirsty (not V8's!) and eminently sensible to own - and the trouble is that E60's are still making very strong money. A 2003/53 E60 520i with cloth and 16's is still £6500 in the sales and £7995 on the pitch. That's why nice spec/mileage/condition late model E39's are doing well. Barry's car is about the right sort of money for a pitch, possibly a tad strong for a private sale but it IS a nice thing and it will make its mark.
E38's......forget it. They've really fallen out of bed now and folk are looking at the fuel bills at £1.06 a litre, a big heavy 20 mpg car and thinking 'f*ck that'. The flash boys wanting a big car are paying all the money for early E65's however because they are only recently obsolete and arguable more imposing than the new FO1. It's taken a while, but the E38 has followed the E32 into the bottomless council pit. Shame because they're a great car.
