Hi,
I have red rear lights on my car (genuine, not sprayed), and have amber bulbs in the indicators, but as i thought , they still flash red! Does anybody else have this problem, and is it legal?!
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul.
No it's not legal.
you can try brighter bulbs in the indicators.(that might work)
or swap your reverse lights for indicators, then re-wire.

Paul.
Let me know where you get the bulbs from. I might have a go at changing mine back.
Cheers.

not sure if it works, if you mix red and green you get yellow, so technically bright green bulbs should produce yellow light.
I am just about to do mine but we are allowed red indicators here, but must have rear white reverse light. i have simply made a special bulb and wire adaptor and have a small bracket under my rear valance. For MOT time i will simply unplug the reverse bulbs and stick a temporary light in there on the bracket under the rear valance with my bulb adaptor plugged into the reverse light bulbholder. upon a pass it gets junked for a year.
could you not do something similar with the indicators???

When it comes to mot time, i could just put on the old clusters, they dont take long at all to fit. Its just my indicators dont show up very well in red, i have seen it from the car behinds view, and its not clear what im doing! I dont want a rear end crash! I will try green bulbs, i hadent thought of that!!
Thanks,
Paul

Try the Philips from http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk/ the ones you want are PY21W (Indicator). Nice and bright.
These are off set pins and my on mine they were opposite pins. I simply filed down one of the pins and I now have a nice set on the front. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong to think the rears are as well. Best to take yours out and have a look, only takes 30 seconds.
As for red flashing idicators at the rear, I'm not sure they are illegal as any imported Yank Tank have the red flashing rather than amber and I never seen them converted they are just left red, but that's just my observation.

I think their illegal. But ive noticed on mine, that the deep red has, after months and months slowly faded and set in a bit more.So at night they look a lot orangier
I got som bright orange bulbs from halfords but it didnt make a difference!
Who cares if their legal...they look cool! Just blag it if you ever get stopped, say they came on the car and you thought they were all ok as theyve got the dot markings and look standard.

Paul, I was just looking at the auction where you sold these lights, I noticed that the reverse light is still white, the genuine red lights were all red including the reverse light.

How where you 100%, you bought them yourself? There's only one manufacturer I know of makes them, and that's MHW, and they're all red, they're also designed to flash amber through the indicator, and e marked.bmwe30mtech wrote:Hi Simon, Not that i know. No, i did not buy them from new. So yes, i cant be 100% sure, that was perhaps the wrong thing to say. What i mean is im 100% sure its not a spray job, because it didnt come off with white spirit, and the plastic was just red!

Ԛ´ello lads, not sure if this has already been suggested.
try normal clear bulbs,.. or mabey some of those "white (blue
) light bulbs, if its poss.
im sure they will blare orange, instead of red. have a feeling orange bulbs behind a red lense isnt gonna do it.
or get a green permanenet marker and stripe the clear bulb up. but i know uԚ´ll be able to see a dark blob in the cluster

I bet it was Mr gee, there was a thread on this wonker a while back, he mis represents them by calling them genuine lights, which they are....genuine BMW lights but sprayed red, very clever wording!bmwe30mtech wrote:Yer from a guy on ebay. Thats very harsh of him. I bought them in good faith off ebay, and sold them the same! I didnt buy them from the guy who i posted the link about. It is clever wording, and i suppose thats why he wants the normal lights back. Glad i didnt get them off him!

You can't be blamed for not knowing, as you said, you sold them in good faith.bmwe30mtech wrote:Thats very harsh of him. I bought them in good faith off ebay, and sold them the same! Perhaps you could explain to the guy you sold them too, and maybe agree to have your negative feedback removed? I know how annoying it is to be left negative feedback for no reason.

Would they be american spec lights with red turn signal sections?
Are they a standard bayonet fitting on those bulbs coz we have amber bulbs at work.
I think anything built after 1967 needs amber turn signal lamps.
