in all honesty, if i had removed the diff and suspension, it would have gone to the scrappers! It was, in effect, 2 hours away from death before i decided that she would get a new lifeline!
190,000miles and not a single stone chip....how's that for carefull driving???

Next step is to re-fit the kit and front wings then get all the brake pipes replaced underneath the car. any underside work will be next, then im gonna get the prop shaft back on the car, get the backbox and centre section of the zorst on there and re-fit all the boot trim bits and rear lights.Andy335Touring wrote:Nice one mate, what's the next step in the resto' project ?
When thats done im going to get all new seals so the car is water-tight. They wont be cheap, thats for sure!!!!
After that, I think I'm gonna start refurbing the block of the engine so I can stick that back in the car together with a gearbox refurb. When the block and box are back in, it should look as it the project has a meaning!!!!
When the block and box are done, I'm gonna start on the headwork. When thats done im gonna set the engine up and bolt the new downpipes to the engine and zorst.
Then Im gonna rip the wiring loom and dashboard out and remove the stupid alarm thats fitted, repair the loom to original spec, fit new dashboard and then get someone from Sextons in Swansea to come and fit a Toad alarm at my house. I will over-see the work and make sure Im happy that he's not butchering my cables and the cars looms.
After that, i'll wire the whole car up again. This will be some time mid-summer now, so I will be looking for cheap Dynamat to keep her quiet in the cabin. Fit the dynamat, doorcards and then its a new carpet, new steering wheel and leather interior!
Then, she should be just about finished, so it will be a trek down to the MOT station, get the tester to dribble over her for a bit, and then take a trip to the post office to tax her!
After that, i'll take her out, drive, pose and feel happy with what ive done.

Lot of work there mate ! Things like brake pipes can be a bitch to do.
It's going to be a real acheivment to be proud of when it's all done, sitting there looking totaly mint
Is the engine going to be modded up as you do the rebuild ? 2.7ltr ? Head ported ? Cam ?
I'll bet it's great to get it home so you can start working on it your self.
Good luck,Andy

congrats Scott - everyone said you were mad to do it but now its come in underbudget and it'll be well worth the cash!
i vote NO to a 2.7! keep it original and in a few years it will be well worth the initial investment as these cars are getting rarer now. I don't imagine you'll be ragging it up and down the B roads quite as much now its looking good!
GET THOSE PICS UP!

I think drift being the oprative word thereKaran wrote:u r going to all that efort, it would be silly not to stick a nice simple 2.7 in there, nothing that extreme, just something a bit more special than a 2.5 if u get my drift

Andy, yes mate, a lot of work! Im buying a copper brake pipe kit with all the fittings and connectors and flaring tools too, so brake piping shouldnt be a major problem.
The engine is going to be standard mate. I may polish the internals up though to make the gasses flow a bit better and improve the burn pattern, but cam and mods like that will be a no-no. standard engine pretty much.
Ive put her safe in the garage and ive already been out to look at her 14 times since she got home at 6pm! lol lol lol
Richy, the tank is good actually. Im gonna take it out anyway and have a look at it closely and if theres any corrosion at all, for the sake of Ԛ£85, i'll buy a new 1.
Simon, i cant afford the 2.7 mate.
Dom, Swansea sextons are good and Cardiff Sexton is VERY helpful! Ive been into Swindon sextons and i agree, they ARE SHITE!!!!!!!
Scott, Top man on the 2.7wrongness topic!
I wont be ragging her anywhere for a while mate! The only time i think i will be ragging this will be the day i become a dad and im racing back from work to make it to the hospital (hopefully that will be a few years from now tho!!!!)

For the sake of Ԛ£85 Richy Im not going to stress over it mate. The amount of money ive spent on this car already could have bought me a minted red H plater with 100k on the clock with FSH, with a responsibe and festideous owner and I would have only needed to travel 60 miles to buy it! (we know which car im on about) but no....im stupid/mad (delete as opinion apropriates) and i bought a shed!
Oh well, shes worth it!

it's only a fuel tank and a few brake lines richy. not as if the car is falling apart with rust. At the end of the day 200k is alot of miles, and even the best motors need lots of love to keep them A1. Plus it will keep falling apart if you drive it like you do all the time!

Just one thing... in your list of stuff to do... how you gonna get her to the MOT station...? You don't mention putting any wheels on her...
Seriously, bet you're well chuffed. Suprised you didn't sleep in the garage last night...
