I bought a power aerial from my local car bits shop for around £30.
If you pull the boot side trim back you will see the gubbins, should be able to re-use the existing wiring.

Isn't just the mast replaceable on the genuine BMW item?

BMW supply Hirschman aerials, I bought a black mast one about 3 years ago and it was £80 odd
The masts are replaceable and cost around £30 from BMW
That was the best reception id ever had in a car, its better than the poxy DAB I use now

?? Nothing 'powered' about a touring aerial. The mast is removable (like a bayonet light bulb), but that's about it.mc_hawkings24 wrote:.... and powered?

I have the hirschmann aerial, it was a real bargain, the only thing that is strange is that when it goes up or down it makes a loud fuzzing sound, like when you are tuning for a radio station.

Because of all my E30's ive never had the noise u describe.Ollie_bwoii wrote:Why? It was brand new a month or two ago. And was the first ever aerial the car has ever had fitted.braxtonator wrote:Yours must have rust inside it
Ive had a humb that the motor makes when it is engaging
The aerial in my Saab diesel turd does this as well as in my e30 I suspect its interference caused my the motor in the aerial.Ollie_bwoii wrote:I have the hirschmann aerial, it was a real bargain, the only thing that is strange is that when it goes up or down it makes a loud fuzzing sound, like when you are tuning for a radio station.

Can't say I've noticed any difference in reception quality between my E30 saloons and tourings, and signal levels around here are not brilliant! My E34 is noticeably poorer though. That uses the rear window element as the actual element, and I suspect a problem with the amplifier/filter tucked away behind the trim at the side.DanThe wrote:No, compared to a Hirschmann mast they are crap

E34 touring glass aerial is utter shite, this is why I used a DAB set, spent £50 on a roof mounted DAB aerial and its not as good as the old Hirschmann mast with a DAB splitter.
I used an E34 amplifier on my chromie as I didnt want to drill the quarter for a mast, used a loop of wire under the rear shelf. Its as crap as the E34 one
Ive got an E36 amp to fit when I get round to it
