my car failed on emissions by 48% on co level will changing spark plugs cure the problem?

Does your car smoke at all?? mine did i i assume it was the valve stem oil seals which is quite an in depth and costly job so i just dropped a new engine in before the MOT

the air filters clean and the car does smoke a little bit at first but when its warmed up it stops

M20 I think n I jus changed the spark plugs and it runs alot better

they told me at the mot station to put some petrol cleaner in with my petrol n tht would improve emissions but i dno whether it is worth it eny1 tried it if so wots the outcome?

At 48% fail it'll probably take more than that to fix it.
You need to address all the service items, and as Will said,the blue temp sensor too needs checking too.
Don't give up,but don't think this'll go away easy either....

48% ?!8O According to the Haynes manual, a 325i should have between 0.5-1.5% CO !
Something must be way adrift. I'd check the usual service items, then the compression of each of the cylinders to see if the valves/piston rings are leaking.
It could also be worn injectors - see the Zone Wiki on how to clean them:
