hi guys,

the other day when i pulled the key out of the door in my e30 tourer the lock barrel came with it :O

ive taken off the door card and im having problems removing the lock barrel

the car has central locking and is therefore different to the only other door ive stripped which came apart easily .

the "c" clip has wires in it ive slid it off to the side and thought i should be able to just pull the remains of the barel out of the door but it also appears to be attatched to the plate on the inside of the door .. HELP :P

Not seen a 'C' clip with wires attached, could this car have heated door locks?
The lock barrel passes through the 'other' plate,it's probably stuck to it and needs a bit of help.
Have a good look in the bottom of the door, bet that you will find a few tiny parts that have come adrift from the barrel, causing it it come apart.
May well find that your easiest fix is a s/h lock set.

Agreed. Locks are fiddly, but once you are familiar with the job it becomes a hell of a lot easier. The wires are probably for the heated door lock - the touring I had was so equipped and had the wires, though I had assumed all driver's doors had them. No more difficult to change locks though. Complete lock sets including glovebox etc are usually about £30 on here or ebay - I think Spadge usually has some kicking about. It's easiest to remove the barrel with the key in it, to give you some 'waggling' leverage to disengage the actuating rod from the barrel arm.
