Hi guys an gals, just wondering what exactly is needed to convert to a manual (having few problems with auto and gettin p*ssed off). Do you need to change the radiator for any reason ? Is it just bottom of bell housing, prop shaft and a few other bits ?

my mate done this to his C2 Alpina.

all you need is:
-manual 'box!
-pedal box from a manual car
-clutch slave cylinder
-clutch master cylinder
-clutch!
-flywheel
-brake master cylinder (because the clutch uses the fluid from the reservoir)
-all the associated pipes
-gear shift selector and gaitor
-possibly a prop-shaft too, but im not too sure

you're looking at a solid weekend for the swap too!

So good luck

I did this a few months ago, you will need the previously quoted parts.

BUT, you do not need to touch any thing to do with the brake master cylinder, the reservior for the clutch is mounted on the o/s suspension turret on its own.

You do not need to swap whole pedal boxes, if you look at the pedal box,the end closest to the transmission tunnel you will see that you can simply undo a bolt, slide the larger brake pedal off and slide the smaller one on along with that very important clutch pedal.

While you do this you can bolt up the cylinder in the pedal box, slide the pipe through the bulkhead. The whole in the bulkhead can be seen very clearly from the engine bay.

After this a copper pipe needs to be pilfered from a manual car or make a new one, this pipe goes accross the bulkhead to a bracket, from this bracket another pipe runs under the car (really need to buy a new one from BM, 29 quid). This pipe connects to the cylinder that is bolted to the gearbox.

If you have any questions feel free to pm me.

Its best to find a manual car and take everything you need off that.

If you are serious about doing the conversion my old man has a H reg 325i manual sitting around doing nothing that we are going to break soon. I will have every part on it that you need as it has only has the engine removed. I'm pilfering the diff and the alloys from it but the rest will be going for sale.

The car is located near Norwich.

The rads are different, but you don't need to change them unless you're worried about looks. The transmission fluid on the auto is piped through the left side of the rad for cooling, just cut the flexi pipes near the rad (with a bucket underneath as they will still have a bit of fluid even after you've drained the box), just leave the defunct pipes running up inside the rad. Or you could loop the flexi pipe ends together to help it look a bit tidier, or just swap for the manual rad.

Cheers

You'll also need a spigot bearing for the end of the crankshaft for the manual box.

The diff ratio may be wrong.

It's also a good idea to source a manual ECU to increase the idle speed.

Cheers,
