I've had two failures this week, the washers didn't squirt and the a side window didn't go up. First thought was failed relays or motors or some hidden wiring problem, something either time consuming and/or expensive, but in both cases it was nothing more than dirty points on the respective switches. The washer prob was cured by spraying carb cleaner into the wiper/washer switch behind the rubber gasket on the steering column and functioning same, the window switch was dismantled and cleaned with the same product. Now all good. Just thought I'd pass this one on for the pesemists and perhaps add this to the preventative maintenance schedule! This could include door locks, hinges, seat adjusts etc. even to replace that old key which may break off in the door one day.

Attend to this kind of thing, and an E30 will reward you by being the most reliable car you could ever hope to own, coupled with extremely low running costs.

it's taken a while to catch up with previous owners neglect but (touch wood) mine is now very reliable, especially considering it's an all-season daily driver that gets used on the ring, zone roam etc etc.
imagine the joy of owning one from new and keeping it in fine fettle :D
