Just a quick question, been told this need replacing so would it be the rubber doughnut just after the gearbox??
Yep that's the one, it's got a few names (IIRC BMW now call it an 'artic-disc')
If you fit it yourself you will notice arrows moulded into the rubber, these point at the flange, it will all make sense when you get under there.
Its 'stressed' to take the power of the engine in 1 direction, if you fit it back-to-front it will not last long.

Can I ask a stupid question, but what are the symptoms of a knackered prop coupling on a 325 auto ?
Does engine and transmission feels like it's straining - like a brake bind that isn't?
Make sense?

its not a stupid question, but it is not the answer. a knackered "donut" normally ends up with vibration
your problems will lie with old and tired auto fluid or low fluid
note the engine should be running when doing while checking the auto box dip stick, run the engine up to temp then with brake on select all gears pausing in each on for a few seconds then back to park and leave engine running, now check the dip stick level. level should be between the marks (never over or under!)
see what colour the Fluid is, red OK, dark brown then drain it, change the strainer and replace the fluid with good stuff and see what happens.

Cool thanks a lot, but the fluid was changed last year - new filter etc at a cost of £120?mrLEE30 wrote:its not a stupid question, but it is not the answer. a knackered "donut" normally ends up with vibration

I'll check the levels anyway as you say.
p.s. I do get small vibration too - like it's shivering????
