Ventured to York Dragway today for the final meeting of the year for some RWYB action. Was a busy day with not many runs until late in the day.

Car hasn't been washed since before the pod

I'm pleased to say I didn't once stray into the 15's./ First run was a 14.9 as I was a complete lesbian setting off from the line with too many revs on and the rears lit up and also hit the limiter before shifting into 2nd.

2nd Run was up against a mate from back in the day as a kid, he'd turned up in a Porsche 928 S4. He was asleep on the line and I served him up.

I served him once more and then on my 4th run I pulled out a 14.52 which I was very pleased with. A mate who was stood about got thrown the camera to get a couple of shots on the line etc.

As the day grew on plenty more runs came in and I managed 10 passes in the end, but didn't get any quicker than my 14.5, the rest were all 14.6-8 and another 14.9 when I was racing a lively Rover SD1 at the end and missed 3rd.

Was getting some horiffic axle tramp later in the day, but the car performed well and I was pleased with the improvement in times from the pod.

Yeah, the conversion was defo worth it for a street car, not for this shizzle though, but when you manage to sort out hero cars like big porkers it puts the relative performance into perspective.

The only other cars I was against that sorted me out was an AC CObra with a whalloping big V8, a red top Nova got me but not by much and finally a Rover SD1 with tuned 4.3L lump who was consistently running 14.5-14.3.

Still not able to crack the magic 100 terminal speed though, 95 was my best speed over the line

Nice work mate, not a lot slower than my old nova. Glad to see it finished. What have you done engine wise?

That's not bad going at all then! Pushing just over 200 bhp? Think i've gotten hold of an M50B28 cheap for my project. Not too sure what to do with it though. One half of me's thinking stick N/A, 325 inlet or bike bodies, decent exhaust and maby a set of cams when I can afford them or just save up and take the Holset route!

If I was starting over again with a B28 and was thinking of strapping a turbo on I think I would look at putting the M52 guts into a M50 block as you are most likely going to end up needing to replace the headgasket at some point or put a new thicker one in from the start and the alloy block is a bit of a liability when it comes to the head studs stripping the threads on the block.

I would guess the power on mine is the right side of 200.

£1500 would see DanThe's M50/52 hybrid dropped in your engine bay with 243 N/A BHP and 13.8 1/4 mile times.

What does DanThe's consist of exactly? Pretty sure i'm going to go down the turbo route and go for a nice reliable 400 ish.

MLS, headstuds, late mitsi evo twin scroll turbo and chuck it on MS. Would an M20 exhaust manifold bolt up to the M50 head? I realise there's twice as many studs, but are the existing in the right place?

I don't believe the M20 log manifold will bolt up, both in terms of the studs but also the shape of the ports on the head are totally different.

I believe what a few people do is buy one of the ebay turbo manifolds for the 24v lump and run the manifold upside down.

These are usually made for LHD cars, so the turbo sits down near where our steering linkage is at the back, by turning the manifold upside down, you end up with the turbo at the front of the engine on top. There will most likely be some fiddling needed but it'll do the trick I reckon.

Dan's lump is a M50 iron block with 2.8 guts, everything (bearings, seals etc) is brand new, also Alpina cams. No way you could build the engine with that spec for that money, so whilst it's a big chunk of change to find in one hit, money well spent at the end of the day.
