Parked up at REworx, I’ve never seen a wankel engine in pieces before, let alone the dozen they had lying around!!! Did anyone get any pics of the blue RX7 with gold wheels, and matching body colour wheel nuts!!!???

Cheers for the coffee BTW!

So, I did three runs;

i) LPG (red trace)”“ 149bhp / 173ft/lbs
ii) Switched over to petrol (green trace)”“ 163bhp / 181ft/lbs
iii) Mixer removed on petrol (pink trace) (although cat flap backfire protection device still in place) ”“ 169bhp / 187ft/lbs

Not quite matching the 189bhp / 177ft/lbs previously at fritz bits.

One of the two exhaust pipes just before the rearmost silencer has broken half way through leaving a large hole. BTB can’t arrive soon enough, to get the rear section made to match by lowly powerflow. Still £325 from manifold back fitted is a lot more sensible than £735 + fitting from btb.

Of course, lots of variables too. Still, 20bhp less and 10ft/lbs more is quite a lot different.

You know as well as I do Jon that neither are 'right' or 'wrong'.

Well, my 169bhp was probably still slightly compromised, by removing the mixer I got an extra 6bhp, I would expect similar from the cat flap device. Giving approx 175bhp.

Jon's is made 150bhp at frirz, gareth your aport did 228bhp? any comparisons for us on your front?

Mine is an early HC engine, chipped, m30 AFM, yellow 19lb injectors, streamlined throttle butterfly and reduced spindle and that's it. Standard exhaust which is on it's last legs and broken just before the rear silencer.

Engine's in good nick, not knocking, not tappety, no smoke, no oil consumption, no coolant usage. :D Touch wood.

Maybe rob would be happy to put his results and mods up to?

My guess would be fritz' is over and reworx under. What do people think??

My 2.8 made 220bhp on Fritz' rollers, I've made more and less else where, iirc I have a power graph the previous owner did with less engine work from Munich Legends reading more bhp than I made at Fritz' or since anywhere else, I expect if I'd popped along today I'd have made less than 220. Its just how they read.

Thats why I take all these threads with a pinch of salt unless you are comparing two cars on the same rollers on the same day then you should run yours on the same dyno everytime to compare where your getting to with the engine.

At the Fritz' day I was just happy to be doing better than the M52 boyos, proving 12valvle donks have legs on them still was a pleasure. I am waiting until I have a little bit of work done before a remap, then I'll head back to Fritz' and see where I've taken the engine since the last visit.

Its not specifically down to the dyno itself but the age, sensers, the software, the weather even the correction algorithm used by the dyno software ect ect every one reads differently to some degree.
