Ratch, this is without doubt one of the great E30 labour of loves Ive seen.

I thought I was anal about things! LOL!

All power to you, man. Awesome project. You've done a load of things I've done in terms of replacing items and then some. It really is stunning.

The thing that saved me with the Indigo Blue interior is that I found a leather guy with an exact match of material. Not OEM, but quality ~ so I bought it all. :) Indigo is a pig to sort.

Get the Z3 plates. Those points are weak on E30s anyway, especially of you go aftermarket with suspension, and you will have peace of mind for peanuts.

Great build; great project; much respect, mate. Well done!

I've never actually seen an Indigo Blue leather interior. I also did the same, have the last 2 hides of an exact match, non-grain stamped Scottish Leather (E30 leather is a tough vinyl like hide, not a regular Buffalo leather with a grain stamped in to mask imperfections a lá E36/E46 standard hides). My Trimmers have another very similar colour from a Ferrari supplier but you can imagine the cost of that hide 8O

My resto is fairly involved but more a glacial-paced spruce up. I was lucky with no bad rust and solid bodywork / paint (bar the damn roof!)

Search these out in the Photo Gallery section for real resto madness:

Ferrari hide! LOL! Oh, my lord! I think I know the colour you mean. I would hate to think of the cost.

It's like injectors I was sourcing. I found the perfect ones: Alfa Romeo. $3K!!!! AUD. Lucky I found an even better spec in an M30B35 injector. Sheesh!

Thanks for the search terms, mate, I'm on it. I'm always keen to see work done by die-hard enthusiasts. If you're going to keep a car, why wouldn't you go balls out on it? Makes sense to me.

That was quite a while back - perhaps they stopped doing it soon after.
I think the one with the coloured stitching was the M Technic accessory wheel (think of those terrible M Technic jackets and tennis shorts) as opposed to the standard one. They came in a special grey box with a clear plastic front so you could check out the M Techness of the beast. winkeye
I have an original box from when I bought a suede one for the Sport Evo. Even the grey box has the tri colour stripes.

Here is a pair of indigo sport seats i bought off spadge two years ago. I raped them for the heating elements.

B7 has indgo in his cab and the last cab i broke up had heated indigo.

There was a zoner called DJ_4BAL i think or something like that who was selling a heated 2dr sport indigo interior about a year ago but it was pretty rough.

He30 has a sterling silver tech2 sport with indigo.

They are out there.

Cardinal/crimson red has gotta be the rarest or maybe brown.

My faves are Indigo and Red. Seen a fair few Indigo interiors but no leather. Even seen a fair amount of Red - quite common in the USA. Brown/Tobacco is easily the rarest and looks rad - think I've seen just one in a pic.

Indigo only works in White / Blue and maaaaaybe Silver cars.

Black Cars - Brown, Silver and Red is good. Black interiors are overkill in a Black car.
Grey Cars - Black, Silver, Brown and perhaps Red.
White Cars - Blue and Black only. Maybe Red.
Red Cars - Silver or Black only.
Blue Cars - Silver and Blue only - maybe Brown.
Silver Cars - Black and Brown - Maybe Blue.

We haven't mentioned beige - it's disgusting in any colour and the E36 and E46 beiges are even more gross. Shame people don't stick to the rules - even if they are mine.

Black with black leather is cool, but then i have that! :)

Indigo in silver is nice, was part of what drew me to my old lachs cab. I also like red interiors in silver cars, but it has to be a deep red, maybe not the scarlet that e30 interiors often were - cardinal?

I always hated cream/tan/beige in any car until I had it - much nicer than grey IMO, and they both suit most exterior colours.

Top thread ratch!

Beige goes with everything because it's such a neutral tepid and bland colour. If it were a person, it would be a loser.

Agreed on the Indigo (I have the Alpine White II with Indigo leather combo). Strangely, it is not really liked in Australia. It was rarely optioned, especially in the leather, so I suppose that is why it is so rare now. The only interior I can think of that I have seen less of is the red (Cardinal?).

Black appears to be the most common here, and the recent trend appears to be to swap in a black interior no matter what.

All depends on your taste/preference.

I'm grabbing seats/doorcars in Nature to replace black leather in the diamond black sedan.

Cheaper than fixing the aircon...

Aha!

That makes sense as when I test fitted one once, the interior lights would come on when I unlocked the car just like the modern BMW's. Looking at the pic again, the wires are connected to the door handle bracket and are not anywhere near the lock barrel so it;s not heated door lock - plus that usually came as part of a Cold Weather Kit I think, which mine didn't.

Worth moving over then I guess - though as I said, it doesn't look to be bolted on and looks like it won;t be fun to remove and refit.

Cheers pal.

Break for a few days whilst I sorted some other stuff out and waiting for more parts to arrive. I'm getting serious parts fatigue now, losing track of what I put where and all the infinite amount of screws and clips and where they go.

Still waiting on a few trim parts for Drivers door, some are here but some aren't so I'll wait till that's sorted.
Image

I did get this done though, the cable I mentioned in the previous post was in fact the interior light delay switch so I moved it over.
Image

I also had to move the door handle mechanism itself as it has an extra arm in the lower left corner that activated the switch. This means my car had this feature from factory yet didn't have the relay installed in the footwell”¦?
Image

But I will be fitting this 'delay relay' anyway - some guy in the USA made a bunch up a year or so ago - they basically make your interior lights delay then fade out like a modern BMW. Gay I know.
Image

Got the dash in today which is a big deal for me as it starts to look like an interior again. Started with attaching the main loom to the underside - had to remove the ducting first.
Image
Image
Image
Image

New Heater Matrix to Dash Gasket - I can conform that when I tested the ventilation blower the force was at least twice as powerful as before - really glad I did this.
Image

The Blue wire is the speed signal feed from the clocks to the Head Unit for more accurate GPS.
Image

+++++++++++
Electrics time!

Slotted the new head unit in to check cable length etc, the bloody ISO loom is too short being held back by rear speaker wire so they have to come out and be re-terminated and pressed back in - this was supposed to be done today but have to order more bits and pieces again. Also, my damn OBC doesn't light up but I don't know if I fitted if new light bar yet so will try that before writing it off.

Amber illumination on the HU (can choose from 16 backlight colours)
Image
Image

This looks so right in the dash - by far the best looking HU on the market for the E30 and the feature list is insane - more on that later.
Image

Fitted the rear speakers but used my old-school grilles to mask the nasty futuristic silver design - they're in and sound great.
Image
Image

Amp is also wired up.
Image

Loving this - fitted the Becker iPod Controller which I got New for £40 - RRP £95!
Image

Also been trying LED Dash Bulbs - these never burn out and never dim. Only problem is LED's inherently do not dim so they stay at max brightness even when you fade the dash illumination down.
Image

Also fitted the power sunroof mech loom - bolted in and the threaded neatly down the A-Pillar to the accessory feed panel. Off to headlining specialist next week hopefully.
Image

Lastly I fitted this, a very high quality Voltage Regulator / Cleaner / Filter. A lot of people have said these are pointless as the Alternator already has a regulator in it but I still get blown bulbs and dash bulbs now and again and I know from my experiences with HiFi that quality mains filters make a massive difference - should help with the Audio Quality too - cleaner voltage to the amp is a good thing.
Image

Then moved on to the front valance. Went on and lines up perfectly. Fog lamps and indicators plugs all sorted and threaded the new OBC Temp Sensor into the brake duct.
Image
Image
Image

Whilst I was there I had a few cans of Waxoil left so I dumped them all in the front end, Scuttle Panel, Front Radiator Frame, Front Chassis Rails and tons in the inner wings. This had already been done by the bodyshop but I did it again - there is tons of the stuff in there now.
Image

Some interior bits arrived courtesy of Chris Warburton - cannot recommended him enough, he only sells mint stuff and service / speed is awesome.

Mint Centre Console - I am not using this one, it;s just a spare as I have something a bit more special winkeye that I will be fitting.
Image

Chris outdid himself here - these door cards and trims look and feel like spanking new trim.
Image
Image
Image

Illuminated M-Knob - one of my favourite additions.
Image

Won't work on it again till next weekend as I'm busy with work. Will have my door pods back though and some more very special bits by then though...

Royalratch, is there a part number for the Illuminated M-Knob or ebay special? How do these fit with a Z3 shifter? My current one is old and saggy.

Top work your doing, slow but worth it in the end.

You can get two versions - the all-in-one gaiter which came on Sports which I have, or just the knob itself which you would probably need s the Z3 shifter is shorter..? It will go right on though.

Image

You also need to choose your emblem, M Logo or M-Stripes etc...

I wonder does the Z3 gaiter (that what the leather bit is called right?) fit the E30 and then put on an illuminated knob like yours above

Its the lower part of the Z3 shifter that is shorter not the bit the knob/gaitor goes on so all the above will fit with the short shifter fine. I did think the gearknobs with the ///M stripes were NLA and just the type as Ratch has with the M in the middle were what you could get now....

I was thinking the shifter itself was also shorter. I like the one with the ///M in the middle so thats not a problem
