1. Whats the widest wheel i can fit on the back? 8"?
2. whats the best offset? & what can i get away with spacers....
3. would 18's fit? i can justify a bit of arch modding

18's will fit no problem if you don't have the car lowered too much, and I mean 60mm or so. Player6 has 19" rims on his.
You can probably get 9" on the back but you again need to watch the lowering and the spacing will need to be accurate, ET offset dictates how far the centre of the alloy is from the mounting plate, a low or negative ET pushes the wheels towards the outside of the car, and a higher ET brings them into the centre of the car. Normal ET is about 20-25 I think for 7J17 rims so you would be looking for ET20 I would imagine on an 18" rim
