it's not 'reserve' as there's no reserve tank - just the single fuel tank. there's no switching to reserve like on a bike either....

Couldn't it mean reserve even if there isn't a reserve tank? It mightn't mean reserve tank, just that you are down to the final "reserve" bit of petrol. Callled reserve because you shouldn't be relying on it to go anywhere, it's just to get you to a petrol station?

I have no idea what it stands for but I'm not convinced yet that it couldn't stand for reserve.

That's what I thought.

Is it F and R on German E30s?

Mine doesn't say what it means. It doesn't even mention the R, just the red zone. It does say that when the orange light comes on petrol should be added in the next 20 to 30miles.

I had my fuel light come on at 1/3 of a tank once, always seems to come on at a 1/4 then go out again. I can get 30miles or so before it comes back on, then I have 11miles left.. done this a few times, crawling into the petrol station misfiring like hell lol..

It seems much better now, totally ran it out, then filled it to the neck, now it seems to come on at the right place.
