Wow! That looks too good to be true. I note there is no reserve although starts at £6k. I wonder where that will end up price wise 8O

Not an uncommmon mileage for the early 90's with every Yuppie rep type or banker doing stacks of motorway mileage.

I had a new 5 series BMW in 1990, by 1991 it had 63000 miles on it

Looks nice, the front end looks a little high in the pics though, could be good value if its as good as described, especially for the ££££

Why wasn't the motorsport conversion completed? Where was it being done, and by who, and can they be contacted to confirm it? It's not that usual to start a job like that and then push it into the corner and forget about it.

The hazy bit between the owner dying and the exchange for Maserati parts would need a bit of clarification too. Who exchanged it and did they have the right to? But it may all be fine, and someone's going to have a very nice car indeed.

Doesn't have any particular relevance to me, as that someone will be someone else!

The front end is bound to be a little high with no engine in it....

Think that will be because the engine is out of it so theres no weight over the front end.

To reiterate, it came into the UK from holland as a swap for some maserati parts and has never been registered in the UK yet it has an imperial MPH speedo....... :?

Might be the makings of a lovely car OR a serious can of worms.

I think it's doubtful that someone after a motorway muncher would buy an E30 M3. A E34 would have made far more sense.

Also, if it was a car originally from Holland, why are the dials in MPH? (Is that an M3 thing?)

Personally I think you'd have to be utterly crazy to buy a car with a dubious history that has supposedly been holed up for 19 years for £6,000. Not when a working example can be had for a few thousand pounds extra.

Anyway, I've been wondering why so many E30 M3s are found in barns!? I can't understand how someone would have a relatively new and desirable car, park it up and forget about it. It doesn't seem to happen these days...

I'm afraid he doesn't mean this, he means bid serious money otherwise its going nowhere!

Looks like a great basis for a nice car, but his story is all chat to me, hyping it up. It'll be serious, uneconomical money.

Good call about the engine, i didn't put 2 + 2 together. If thats the case whats all this talk about 'light weight 4 pots' against 'heavy' 6 pots eh winkeye

It's funny you mention that day as i've never seen so many E30's around Retford before all in the same dose, i didn't see your 'is though!

I've also just come back from Laganas, Greece and suprisingly i saw so many E30's driving about, absolutely loads of them (and Zakynthos is only a small island) but like all cars over there they had dints in every panel, parts missing and all piloted by CRAZY Greeks!

If you have hired a car anywhere in Greece before you will know what i mean!

Its farking tempting isn't it, I'd drop £5k on that I reckon, I'd want at least another £3k in the bank just in case.

Its not like its a gamble is it?? I think 3k to spend might be a little on the low side.....as long as the paintwork is as described then thats a few quid saved. Only issue is the history. It already seems a bit odd that its done 40k in 2 years but not moved for 19 and, not that it would really matter, service history for its first two years.

It would have to be finished off very well to entice someone to buy it when finished then for the rest of its life there is always going to be that long winded story (that could be bollox) attached to it every time it goes up for sale to convince someone its not a clocked car.

if its true the shell should be pucka with no rust issues, which is a good selling point to me.

If the engine has only covered 41k then it shouldn't be rusty junk like we see in most E30 engine bays now

What's all the fuss about here?

Nobody would part with the money till they've thoroughly checked it out and then hand over the cash for a GREAT deal. Whether the barn story is true or not is as irrelevant as these armchair posts! As Simon13 has said before, the best deals often come from dubious ads because nobody bothers to go see them. If they check out you are laughing - if they don't so what?

I bought an 03 Plate E46 Touring, 120K on the clock (absolutely spotless, 17" MSport Split Rims wheels, SE spec and BMW Aero roof box included) but the owner said the engine had been changed recently due to 'total failure'. Most people would have left it. I got the VIN, phoned the dealer BMW dealer who sold it and they confirmed they did a FULL engine, Turbo, Cat and Exhaust replacement under warranty 30K ago! Best deal I ever made.

The smart kid will not even bother talking, go down there with cash and spend a good hour or so looking over it with an M3 nut next to him - and take it away for £5G!

Why on earth is it a good deal?! If the story is to be believed (which I doubt, especially considering the MPH clocks) it's been stored for 19 years doing sweet feck all. It's not a matter of gluing the engine back together and having a blast down a couple of B Roads. It's going to need a fairly major overhaul regardless of the bodywork condition. M3 prices aren't inflated to point where a car stored for 19 years without use, with no V5 and no history is considered a "GREAT" deal at £6k.

Dude.

What does a rot free M3 shell alone go for?

And then an S14 that look like that one?

If it all checks out, £5-6G for an excellent condition low-mileage car, even allowing for bolting back together and some bits sorted is a great deal - even if you spend another £3G you have a rust free 40K mileage M3 - how many of those are around?

The MPH meter could have been the swapped upon import for pass regs or was easy to do first. Who cares. In fact, if I lived near him I'd be down there now fine tooth combing it right now.

its got a vin and its although its never been registered here it wouldnt be to difficult to check it out for peace of mind. does that mean when the new buyer registers it itll get a new modern numberplate or a q plate?
