Just a quick q - i've got a split charge relay in the boot, already hooked up to the alternator (0 gauge cable, fused) and am just wondering if there's any reason why i couldn't power a mid size amp (<400wrms) directly from it, as i don't have a second batt at the mo!! Would the relay handle, and the alt supply the current ok??

One side is always live (via the alt to the batt obviously) and the other is switched live when the engine is running.
Would it be similar to hooking the amp straight to the batt???

Feel free to correct me, there must be a reason why people don't do this!!!!!

Just wondering about doing a really quick hook up later, without having to run another cable through the car!!

Cheers!

my only real concern would be the voltage fluctuations without the battery to smooth it out. you could try putting a decent capacitor between the supply and amp which would have the same effect.

as for handing the power it should be no problem as a 400W amp would not draw too much under normal or averaged conditions
