The engine now looks as good if not better inside than the car looks outside
Looking forward to remapping it soon and seeing the results.

short ratio 3.64 LSD and Z4M bush kit
276/284 Shrick cams
Sport Evo green 330cc injectors
Sport Evo valve springs
Ported and polished head by Grant Motorsport
Wossner Forged pistons (oversized)
Wossner piston rings and gudgeon pins
(Compression raised from 10.5 to 11)
shot peaned rods
Sport Evo oil pump
complete new sputter bearing set for the bottom end
Baffled sump
new chain, guides, tensioner, radiator, oil pump chain, valves, gaskets, new alternator and poly bushes.
Mocal oil cooler and braided lines.
Any yellow stuff pads at the front (after chroninc brake fade after 1 high speed stop - eh Paul?!
Its been in for initial mapping with Paul and it made 270-275 @ 7800rpm with 200-205 ib/ft of torque. Im absolutely chuffed to bits to get it back on the road and its driving better than ever.
I took it to the Nurburgring a few weekends back and managed 8 laps - obviously wasnt caning it because im a fanny when it comes to this car but i managed a 9:30 before my nerve gave in...

Now its back its at Pauls getting everything fine tuned to his high standard and hopefully ill have it back next week ready for the next phase
Once back home ive decided to get it painted by my mate Greg Howell whos based in Southam. Ive been thinknig about it for a while but theres a few small patches of rust and a few shocking repairs paid for by the previous owner that have lasted a little over 2 years.... So rather than have little repairs done all over the car ive decided to get it done properly. Ive tried to sell my logic to to the other half - it aint happening... but im doing it anyway!!!
Flyrawk- yeah there your rims bud. Stripped them back and sent them off to Pristine to be powder coated and polished. I used new stainless bolts and e28 shallow hubs and carbon caps.
Cheers,
Warren

I've never had that much brake fade from one application, but I guess it was from some velocityfourmotion wrote:Any yellow stuff pads at the front (after chroninc brake fade after 1 high speed stop - eh Paul?!)
Once we confirmed we couldn't get the fueling we needed for optimum power, we fitted the Sport Evo or 330cc injectors and got more than enough fuel. But this meant both fuel and ignition maps were way out. Unfortunately we didn't have the time I would have liked to make the maps perfect.fourmotion wrote:Its been in for initial mapping with Paul and it made 270-275 @ 7800rpm with 200-205 ib/ft of torque. On first start up when cold I was stunned at how well the engine sounded, no rattling, no piston slap and no smoke, just quiet and refined. Grant's done a superb job and the second S14 I've had him do sounds just as great and coincidently I've just this second had a text from the owner saying "Smooooooth" lol. He's now building my Sport Evo engine, so impressed I am.

Ahhh video clips! Forgot those!

Grant at Grant Motorsport has been ace the entire way through the build and has given me good advice along the road which unfortunately hasnt been as smooth as id hoped for. I had thought the engine had already had a rebuild of sorts(thats what i was told by the previous owner and we all believed it to be true because of the power figures BUT there was no documentation to back it up) but after we took it apart we were all shocked to see it was pretty much all original apart from the cams and a slight amount of poor head porting. Its ironic that i posted the car up on pistoneheads recently the previous owner who had done the work had only actually installed cams, sprockets and a new chain so it all fell in to place. So its cost me a lot more than i originally intended but its now as good as a brand new lump.
Cheers,
Warren

Lots has been happening in my world so id thought id update.
Well after i got back from the ring the car went back to paul Shephard at his request as he wanted some more time to tweak the maps and perfect everything with the green 330cc injectors. It was my fault really as id rushed him to complete it in a day due to my impending 'ring trip being just two days away.
When i got it back, it had been transformed again. Anyone considering mapping their M3 should consider noone else in my opinion as his workmanship is second to none. The car's gained torque and power low down (over 10bhp at one point), and at max rpm and is the motor unbelievably flexible which is what you'd think to be against the grain in a heavily modified 2.3 4 pot. In summary, im chuffed to bits, so thanks for all your hard work Paul.
Unfortunately when it was at Grant Motorsport, we noticed that the front scuttle was starting to micro blister. Not unusual i know for these to start around the scuttle, but it was repaired by a (apparently) Ferrari/ restoration specialist in Aberdare about 2 years ago and considering its been garaged for the last year and a half i was pretty gutted at the thought of more expense around the corner.
After much deliberation, I decided a repaint was the only way forward as the rear quarter, sunroof, and front arch were all showing signs of rust. Also the front sill seams had been crushed at some point which is pretty common but i thought it was a good call to get them sorted before it became a much bigger job in the near future.
I decided to take it to Greg Howell at Southam Bodies in Coventry as hes well known in the Dub scene for top quality work. After stripping it back in a matter of days and having a good poke about, it was concluded that underneath, the chassis is in great shape probably due to previous owners keeping on top of it.
So far its had some proper repairs carried out by Greg to bring it up to scratch. There was a small hole in the rear quarter as it seems that one of the scews for the sill acts as a water trap which had caused the rust on the one side. Greg bare metalled the whole area and cut a small section out. Then welded back in, and once happy it was completely sealed from the inside, and outside.
The scuttle needed to have a small section cut out because of the previous dodgy workmanship, again the sections were completely bare metalled and any dubious sections were cut out. A small section was welded back in to replace it, and again sealed inside and out. Hes in the process of sealing the scuttle with high temp sealer to protect the whole inner scuttle from water/damp which was left bare!
The number plate recess by aforementioned restoration specialist, which consisted of rusty metal strips welded in and filler to help keep them in situ. Greg had to cut it out but im keeping it as a reminder. Youve really got to be careful when it comes to bodyshop repairs.
Greg also ended up bare metalling both rear quarters because there were quite a few layers of paint from previous touch ups. To be fair it was a good move as its sharpended up all the angular lines of the M3, and the finish is now superb. He has also bare metalled and welded up a small hole in the front inner arch, while both wings were scrap at water seems to congregate a the bottom of the wings. Once completed, everything was treated, primed and sealed with a special tertrosyl. First class work!
Ill let the pictures speak for themselves. New panels arrive next week, so you should be able to see something resembling a car soon...
I have a rear window, 2 doors for sale cheap and a bonnet going free if someone wants it... pm me if your interested.
Cheers,
Warren

Cheers guys.
Cant wait to get it back now after seeing it yesterday. Also chuffed to bits knowing its in good hands. Mine had little bits of rust appearing so i thought better now than leave it a year or two. Glad i did, but this is definitely the last spend on this car for the forseeable future. Honestly.....
Heres some engine pics for you dude.

Yes, it is still a 2.3ltr. No lightening, just a nice build with slightly higher CR pistons, nice porting and polishing but with standard valves and ofcourse the obligatory 284/276 schrick set up.paddyvw wrote:wow that is amazing. is is a 2.3 making that power? well done paul another great car to another good car on your books. i fear in time my car will need a rebuild but in the future!!
We had to restrain Grant from putting in larger valves, more aggressive cams and a higher CR again with lightened parts. But it was worth the wait in my opinion as it is a truely cracking motor now

last pic before Christmas.
Still waiting for new passenger door to turn up from the dealer but all the panels have been painted apart from that. The old bonnet was also starting to rust around where it folds around the frame and although possibly repairable, it wouldnt have lasted.
Getting there......

Getting there......
