Well i think they are a terrible excuse of a bmw they just annoy me. and whats so special about the one posted above? the engine that isnt ment to be in it is all i can see.

M52 a compact and it still isnt as fast as a 23 year old 325 sport as this post originaly set out to show.Save your money and buy a 328i sport-cracking cars.

the one above is mine

for what it owes me, and i'm sticking my neck on the block here, you probably wont get a quicker bmw

its an odd ball car, quick and econominal smoth quiet and a sensible nice daily driver

3 years ago i was driving e30's , i still own 2 but i wouldnt go back to driving one every day thats for sure, not since driving an e36. my 1st e36 was 318tds touring and this is my second e36. and the reason both of them came about was wanting a newer daily driver which stands out.

next up will be an e46, an e60 or nicely speced e39

but hey if you dont like them you dont like them, i'm not 100% sure if i like mine but its better to drive than an e30 every day and thats whats important to me

I guess they are like a marmite car , either like them or loath them. I would have thought a m52 engined one would be able to match a normal sport pretty easy. If the sport is in good working order your still only getting 171 bhp out of it , the m52's have closer to 200bhp and the advantage of being a 24v engine of the m20's 12v. Unless it's an example like Barry's and had some good cash thrown at it I find it hard for a sport to beat an m52'd compact.

I agree e30's arent great as daily drivers and e36's are much better for that. Ive had 2 328 sports so i know how good the m52 is its a cracking engine and an e39 and they were excellent cars both fast and good on juice and comfortable.

I just consider any bmw without a 6cyl engine not a proper beemer but thats just my 2 pence worth as yours has one i guess it is :D . ive had quite a weird experience with bmw's as ive gone backwards through the models, i do find my sport a lot more entertaining and raw when im in the mood to drive it and outdraging that m52'd compact was just sweet :D

The video i posted shows me dispaching a m52'd compact that can run a 14.1 1/4 mile. Mine has an exceptional engine and isnt standard and has around 190bhp and weighs next to nothing.Itl be of to pod next year if i havent sold it by then.

even out the box, the later m44 1.9's with the maf instead of the AFM they are quite nippy and very fuel efficient

town, cheers mate !

head to head and back to back against a sport i cant say, but i did run a 14.4, i think barrys sport ran 15.3 which is bloody good for what is pretty much a standard car, which my compact is as well. i when head to head with simon13's c2 2.7 which has been felted with a bit as well and over the 1/4 mile i was 0.6 of a second quicker

i'd say it more than a match , but a clean victory lol but its dependant on the driver. that black one will soon enough kill its diff

every one who has driven the compact or gone out in it thinks its hoot to drive, simon 13 drove my compact last night at aces and he finds it a bloody fun car to drive, and its very very torquey. from 1900rpm through to 6000rpm it making 180ft/lb of torque peaking at 205ft/lbs :D
it does feel pretty raw like a well sorted e30 sport/alpina. driving wise, the steering is much more direct than an e30, but has the forgiving e30 rear suspension which i like. by the time i'nm done with it it'll be like a go kart

any way, it is what it is and if you dont like it, i dont really care lol i'm looking forward to my 1st track day in it :D

ps, the driver of the new audi S3 wasnt happy the other night after he said no chance to me, and when we reached 100mph i was still with him :D

I got over took when doing 120 on the motorway by that same compact like i was stood still lol it has big top end power it just strugles to get the power down hence why i chalenged him as mine grips and takes off! The m52's are very torquey thats why i love em, id love to throw one in my sport. Il have to drive a compact and it might change me mind..as long as its an m52 one :D

I very rarley treat the Alpina with any majour abuse as I just enjoy the whole package you get with it. It's a very nice drive but it's no wepon like most of the guys like Si and Barry's were.

Saying that I did beat all the m20'd e30's I raced on the day so the old girls still got a fair bit of edge to her it seems.

Was just watching the wee clip and the guy in the compact seemed to lunch it good and proper at the start. With drag racing it's all about the start, as many people on her will tell you :)

For me I'll enjoy having the badge and sound, I'll leave the fast stuff to the talented drivers :D

I think you need to get your car on a dyno before continuing with the slating :)

S50b30 with a 3.91 diff winkeye

bmw build quality, quick modern steering, classic predictable e30 rear end, poundland parts prices and hatchback practicality. much more usefull every day than most e30s imho.

speaking of which, i might as well chuck mine in the bin, afterall a 4 pot isnt a 'proper' bmw apparently

oh, an try fitting a 316i open diff to your 325i and see how easy it is to make a nice clean, quick getaway

Kos, m52 (or s50) would be nice, but it's the sensible car so will be staying as a lowly 1.6 for the forseable unless i pick up something else sensible and turn it into yet another project that will never be finished :P

Its not realy a slating just 'facts' :D
Il be getting this on the dyno soon as it looks like it will be getting sold to a good friend next june so ive got it for a tad longer :D

And for the record a compact is just an e36 coupe with the boot chopped off with loads of cheapo old parts fitted from the bmw parts bin..and no they arent proper beemers they look like some chavs nike air max trainer.
And why would i fit a crappy 316 diff when ive got a 3.64 lsd fitted :?

For the record, a compact is nothing like a coupe

So these facts, are you trying to say that due to what happened in the crappy video your E30 is capable of a 14.1 or better 1/4 mile?

For the record you don't seem to have a clue what you're talking about. The compact front end is e36 saloon, everything behind the a-pillar is compact specific (other than maybe the odd bit of trim) funny how that crappy partsbin suspension is perfectly acceptable on your e30. Cheaper and more basic yes, but also lighter and mote compact.

The point about diffs was a suggestion why the other car struggled to get a decent launch.
cheers,

No im not saying itd do a 14.1 i dont know what it would do as its never been timed, i admit he had a bad start but i had a good one. As for me not knowing what im on about, ive had every e36 worth having so i think i know a fair bit. And i realy dont need or want a history lesson on e36 compacts i know they are based more on the saloon as the coupe was also unique, i was just been sarcastic!
i cant beleive they have such a big following on here, i though e30 owners had good taste :x

they have they use the rear arms for 5 stud conversions meaning thought the rear end is basically the same as an e30

Reason we're only fond of them is we got the compact for a 100 quid, S50 was just sitting in the garage doing nothing and was the same story for the coil-overs.
All together they made a pretty fun and cheap drift car while his S54 E30 track car is being finished.

I think a M3 Compact would be a fun street sleeper too as everybody hates them and thinks they are shite so would be comical to be making Integra Type-Rs, 200sx, some skylines etc and lots of other common reasonably quick cars feel very silly :D

For a 100 notes & s54 power you cant moan i guess!!!

I get the apeall of owning something people dont like..i get it all the time with the e30, most people think its an old piece of c*** thats worth about £200 thats why i love it, the look on peoples faces when they get blitzed is pricless!!!
theres nothing better than having something that punches above its weight with the modern fast cars.

I have found even the younger members in my classes at uni actually like my e30. It's different but still has alot of credability.

The e36 was never the prettiest BMW , but I think the compact is alot nicer than the 1 seris when it was first reveialed.

A 328 compact with a 316i diff 3.64 IIRC will top out at an indicated 130 - as tested on the autobahn :) Never tested the 0-60 but with an M50 manifold an a map it's pretty nippy.

Got a 3.15 E30 LSD to put in at some point but there's a beam across the boot floor that needs some re-shaping so it will fit.
