Hi to all big6 swappers,
as the topic says, mine is giving black smoke from the start-up. What options to start with ?? spark plugs ? OS2 sensor ? cleanup TB??
would appriciate any helpful feedback.
thanx

YES, drives fine with a tappet noice, i think valves needs to be adjusted. Big-6 plucked from a '90 E32 735i auto.

Recently i changed thermostat and noticed aluminum oxidation formation inside the coolant passages.

Planning for a full head-work, Thunderbird valves and AFM delete (with MAP-ECU2) this winter. Also consider dumping the heavy (8 kg.) intake mani with a Cabon Fiber air plenum.

clean TB, new plugs, clean injectors, drain tank and add new octane, .....but, still missing and back fire and hesitate to move.

Finally, called a M30 electrican, and he said AFM not working.
But how to test it? AFM repairable ? tomorrow, going to replace and see if it's works..

Mine ran like $h1te which turned out to be a broken lambda sensor in the exhaust. Worth unplugging the sensor if your's has one, and let the ECU run on its default fuel map.

Blue temp sensor also likely, as Gareth suggested. Easy to measure its resistance when hot and cold, the correct specs are on the zone somewhere.

Martin.

Thank you for the advise Maritn,
i fixed the temp sensor. but it was hesitate to move and giving back-fires.
Yesterday replaced the AFM ending with #027 (from an E32 for 15KD with one week warranty :) ).
start the car and wait for couple of minutes.............BACK TO SMOOOOOOOOOOTH idle. :D

i removed the intale pipe and check the AFM flap is working.. 8)

MERRY CHRITSMAS TO ALL ZONERS..

HAPPY 2010

Lee, any pics?? you should have taken some on your phone.
BTW, it's clowdy for the last 2 days here.
When it's rain, all those nissan GT boys and mustang-ers comes out to the school parking ground nearby and start doing ESTAARAAT (drift) till blow up their rear tyre. :x

WISH YOU MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY 2010. :D

no pics!

Here in Bahrain there is a long standing rivalry between BMW and Nissan boys, they say our BMW's run too hot we say their Jap things are slow!

Glad your car is fixed, enjoy the rain!
