Coolant Light

Hey there,

I'm having trouble with the coolant light on the check panel, its been constandly since I bought the car 2 months ago despite having plenty of coolant in the resvoir. I've changed the viscous coupling, flushed the system and bought a new coolant sensor but it's still on. When I changed the sensor the "check" light in the dash goes off but only when I press the "check" button on the check panel????

pull the connector off the sensor on the reservoir. then try turning the ignition on first with it disconnected and second with a paperclip bridging the terminals in the connector.

if the light comes on both times then probably the connector contacts are dirty or corroded, or the wire's broken.

can't remember off hand if the coolant low signal is circuit-open or circuit closed.

There are two versions of the level sensor available. One that fits in the wing mounted header tank, connector end upwards, and the other that fits in radiators with integrated header tanks, that fits in the bottom of the tank, connector downwards.
If you've been sold the wrong one, as I was once, then your coolant light will come on when the tank is full, and go out when it's empty.
