Given that the interior lighting is so poor in E30s, has anyone out there attempted to wire their rear view mirror map lights into the door switch, so they come on along with the dome lights? Seems like it might be worth attempting...

There is someone on here that's fitted them like that, they're wired them direct to the interior light.

That's a good idea!! Didn't think to wire them to the interior lights aswell.

It's only looking at stuff in the front which is lacking though.

The map reading lights are pretty good.

Yeah, standard lights are very poorly placed if you need to do something in the front seat, as you're head blocks the light (mine does anyway!) the extra light from the maplights does give a great bit of light and where it's needed too.

How about fitting neons in the footwells to come on when you open the doors?? :?

Do I detect a stench of sarchasm?

Sounds like a plan to me. Red ones to match my car.

On all three of my Tourings, I've fitted an E30 boot light to the access cover for the sunroof motor, which solves the lack of light problem perfectly. I fed the lights from the left side roof light by pushing a cable forward through the fixing hole for this light, and hooking it out of the sunroof motor cover by a bit of stiff wire. One wire is connected to 12V+ at one end of the left side lamp, and the other wire is connected to the other end of the lamp. In some E30 roof lights there is a brass terminal that can be soldered to, but most are a slightly different design, which needs the addition of a brass eyelet, ( the type you crimp with special pliers ).

Nah..matching colours isn't the done thing, I'd say some purple ones would look good, or multi colour ones?

Anyway that mirror I bought off you I still haven't wired it in yet!

F**k sake Si that was months ago!!

Since then, I wished I'd kept it, and bought myself another off someone else and wired it in now, with the masterful help of Ian332isport, and it's sweeeeeet.

Every little helps! Loving it.
