Hi,

Just been through an MOT and my car failed on emissions...

C/O too high

Any suggestions.

I have a k&n fitted but it passed last time with it in.

I'm changing the engine next week so if i make it run crap and pass thats not a problem.

Thanks

Its not got a cat (1989 car).

I could ask them at the MOT place about the test.

Last MOT the centre box was blowing so maybe thats why it didnt fail on emissions.

The filter has only been on a couple of months. How dirty could it be living in the UK?

after the dry spell we had, could be clogged enough to restrict airflow and raise the idle CO emissions

What were the HCs like ?

Give the garage a tenner to tweak the mixture screw when they retest it. Looking at the ppm reading there are no major issues and a tweak should get it legal.

Is this applicable on a '89 320??
10. Will I need to make adjustments to my vehicle after I install a K&N filter or intake kit?

On fuel injected vehicles the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) computer and emissions control system will adjust for the increase in air. The OEM computer will adjust immediately if it is reset. Removing the battery cable from the battery for 15 minutes or more should reset it

Nope, no fuzzy logic on e30 ECUs M8

5mm allen key and a few seconds on the gas bench, MOT pass no worries, I bet they tested @ idle too, without doing the 20 second engine purge.

I stand by my comments with regard to the filter though M8  best place for the cone is the bin, nothing beter than the stock airbox IMHO.

Im binning the M20 engine next week for a M50 so the filter will have to stay.

I've adjusted the air flow with an allen key and it'll have more oxygen going in now so hopefully it'll pass this time.

Just a quick update for everyone that offered advice...

IT PASSED today!!

I just tweaked the air intake to allow more are to flow and it was far better on the emissions.

Started stripping the engine today, should have it removed by the end of tomorow :)
