tuning? the best way of tuning a 316 for more power is to set the engine running and then get your hose pipe and jet water up the inlet pipe until it cuts out.
The car was there so i bought it, im giving my mate the money at a later date so at least its a step into the e30 world, but if im just guna get slated il just get a different collectors car!

Or just put a bigger motor in mate. Think you have taken it the wrong way. He was just saying that if you want the back end out you want more power.

It's the same thing. Its slow because it's a 1.6 with no power. As you say it was cheep so put a bigger motor to get the back end out easier. Don't understand your problem

A come on now Alan! A 316i is still a better car than a clapped out 1.6 sierra! :D
Some Sierras like the 24v engined ones and obviously the Cosworths are very cool cars indeed.

If the car was bought for 135 quid, I'd find a 325i engine and drop it in and drive on.

Your getting nearly twice the power for a days work and if your worrying about insurance just don't mention it as welding the diff will look even worse in court than being caught with an E30 with an engine from another E30 in it if something happens

I bet you most of that industry is funded by parts which in no way improve a car..

Have Demon Tweeks and other sellers of this tat you talk about started selling welded diffs like? Along with chrome wipper blades and carbon film? There is always one lurking around waiting for just the right time for his little brain to fart all over a welded diff thread. Well done your the winner

E30s can be improved quite significantly. Why do you think there's so many M30, M50, M52s, S50, 2.7s and 2.8s on here and lots of threads on uprated steering, brakes, suspension.

But getting a mig welder to the diff isn't one of the ways the car is improved however unless it's solely for drifting on a track.

Nothing like a good old discussion on welded diffs to make everyone on the defensive. Sadly though, you did sort of miss the point. Entirely :).

sweep's post implied that the reason we shouldn't fit welded differentials is because BMW spent thousands of hours designing the E30, which in my humble view is very short-sighted. Every single car is built to a price/target audience and can always be improved. Dismissing what you'd consider a stupid modification on the basis of "Oh, BMW spent XXX amount of time designing that" isn't relevant as they spent probably more time developing the suspension but it's widely accepted if somebody choices to bung some B8s Dampers, H & R springs and ebiach anti roll bars on their car over O.E replacements? How many R & D man hours were pumped into the standard Steering rack that is considered to be a low point of the car? How many hours did it take for them to decide that non 325i didn't need 51mm Front struts or rear Disc brakes?

The comment wasn't to support welded diffs. To be quite honest I'm not going to bother weighing in on that subject as it's been done a million times before and always results in childish name calling and insults, and you've gone and proved...

I commuted 110miles a day in my 318is with a welded diff, they are fine. You can say what you like but at the end of the day I got to work safely and compared to an open diff the handling was better. My welded diff changed my mind on LSDs, in fact I had one to fit the 318is but chose to leave the welded one on instead. Bare in mind I'm not even a drifter!!

i dont think E30s are worth that much either. Especially considering i managed to get two of them without even trying hard for hardly any money at all.

Its just base models in general that are worth sod all but then as these cars get older (Sierra and E30) the shells become more sought after, well the good ones anyway.
